The newest build of System Mechanic - version 18.02.486 -- released in mid-October 2018 finally puts an end to this most irritating problem.
It appears to be safe to use System Mechanic again.
Program or background process popup keeps appearing

For days I've been getting this popup window on my Windows 10 Build 1803 computer:
"The program or a background process quit unexpectedly. Would you like to send information to a developer?"
It occurs intermittently, often every 5-10 minutes, and is EXTREMELY annoying. When I click on it, it disappears with no results but keeps reappearing. I cannot figure out what program is causing this as all programs I use are accounted for. The machine has been scanned several times and there is no sign of virus or malware. There have been no new programs installed and Windows and all drivers are current. It's a total loss to me what this is.
Anyone have any idea?

2018-09-17T13:59:03+00:00 I agree with others that this issue is related to System Mechanic. In fact I can get the error message to appear ( after a restart ) just by opening System Mechanic. Also....I often find the error message on the screen if I leave my PC for a few minutes.....and it is during those few minutes when the PC is not busy that System Mechanic runs its various checks. Best thing to do, until Iolo do a fix, is to switch off ActiveCare and just do manual repairs.....I mean it's not like the software really needs to run the checks every time your PC is inactive anyway...it is superfluous.

2018-09-13T01:12:10+00:00 I know it is related to System Mechanic because I filled out a trouble ticket and they answered that they knew they had a problem and that it would be fixed in the next release (no date given). Seems to be limited to version/release 18, but am not absolutely certain of that.

2018-09-12T20:49:09+00:00 Uninstalling Iolo software fixed the problem for me. I hate to lose it but for me it's better to go without and lose the popups that were occurring every minute or so. You could also try the solution listed above where you limit the times when Iolo software can be active. It greatly reduces the issue but doesn't eliminate it.
But if you don't have Iolo software, I'm not sure what would cause it. There's another reason but it's probably software related.

2018-09-12T18:44:55+00:00 The problem is caused by System Mechanic. They promise that it will be fixed in the next update. They recommend disabling "Active Care", but that does not solve the problem. The options seem to be tolerate the problem or uninstall System Mechanic.
