Program or background process popup keeps appearing

For days I've been getting this popup window on my Windows 10 Build 1803 computer:

"The program or a background process quit unexpectedly. Would you like to send information to a developer?"

It occurs intermittently, often every 5-10 minutes, and is EXTREMELY annoying. When I click on it, it disappears with no results but keeps reappearing. I cannot figure out what program is causing this as all programs I use are accounted for. The machine has been scanned several times and there is no sign of virus or malware. There have been no new programs installed and Windows and all drivers are current. It's a total loss to me what this is. 

Anyone have any idea?

The newest build of System Mechanic - version 18.02.486 -- released in mid-October 2018 finally puts an end to this most irritating problem.

It appears to be safe to use System Mechanic again.

    Just wanted to add something to my above comment.  I, too, have System Mechanic and thought that might have been the problem due to the number of events showing for Iolo in the Event Monitor.  However, a friend of mine does not have any Iolo product, and she's getting the same pop up.  I downloaded their "Malware Killer" program with a recent update and wonder if that might be the culprit for me.

    I believe this has been happening since the last Windows (10) update.  Hopefully, someone can figure out what is causing it and can create a fix for it because it is definitely very annoying.

    I think you are right, Dave. When I opened System Mechanic to do what you recommend, I immediately got the popup window. Funny that I've had SM for years and only started getting the popup recently. 

    I'll monitor the system and see if that fixes it. If not, I'll just get rid of System Mechanic. The subscription runs out in a few months.

    This is discussed on the tenforums forum.

    Support from System Mechanic said to follow these steps:

    Open System Mechanic Professional

    Click on the Settings or the gear like icon located at the upper right corner

    Go to Active Care and expand the settings

    Go under Exceptions 

    Put a check mark on "Do not run between"

    Set the time wherein the software will not run.

    However, this is not a real solution - I run my PC and Laptop 24 hours but goes into sleep mode. I  boot maybe once a week.
