Program or background process popup keeps appearing

For days I've been getting this popup window on my Windows 10 Build 1803 computer:

"The program or a background process quit unexpectedly. Would you like to send information to a developer?"

It occurs intermittently, often every 5-10 minutes, and is EXTREMELY annoying. When I click on it, it disappears with no results but keeps reappearing. I cannot figure out what program is causing this as all programs I use are accounted for. The machine has been scanned several times and there is no sign of virus or malware. There have been no new programs installed and Windows and all drivers are current. It's a total loss to me what this is. 

Anyone have any idea?

The newest build of System Mechanic - version 18.02.486 -- released in mid-October 2018 finally puts an end to this most irritating problem.

It appears to be safe to use System Mechanic again.

    Do you have System Mechanic or any Iolo software installed? 

    So far the problem seems narrowed to any Iolo software in use with the most recent MS OS feature update. I uninstalled ALL Iolo software and the popups have stopped.

    My suggestion would be to try that if you are really wanting to completely end the popups. Good luck!

    I don't have Malware Killer but I'm getting the pop up all the time.  Have sent a ticket to System Mechanic but no reply as yet.

    Microsoft seems very anxious to get rid of this thread. They keep marking Dave in Phoenix's post about changing the times that System Mechanic runs as the solution.

    THIS PROBLEM IS NOT SOLVED!

    And I won't allow a solution to be marked until my problem is solved 100%.

    Dave's solution greatly reduces the frequency of the popup in question so I recommend it for anyone who wants to keep using System Mechanic. I have uninstalled it until a total solution is found and popups have ceased. 

    Special thanks to Dave in Phoenix for his help! Definitely try his suggestion.

    The mid-October 2018 update to System Mechanic - version 18.0.2.486 - put an end to this problem once and for all (I hope).

    We had run into this exact same problem on just one of our Windows 10 computers. It's the only one still using the Fall Creators Update (1709) because it just won't install the Spring 2018 Windows update.

    Ever since we upgraded System Mechanic to version 18, this computer had been plagued with the message that others have gotten as well as the ESENT 916 business in the Event Logs.

    Interestingly, the message window that pops up at random times throughout the day generally disappears as soon as you move the cursor on the screen.

    This does not happen with System Mechanic 17 at all -- but the nags to upgrade to version 18 are pretty intolerable.

    Fortunately, the problem is fixed with version 18.0.2.486 released in mid-October 2018.
