Where did you find the reset option please?
I had an option to do a system restore, but it said there were no restore points (there should be at least one). There was no option to reset.
Have spent a couple of hours online to MS chat, they gave up and escalated it. I won't be able to take a callback tomorrow, so my PC will be down for at least 3 days, so frustrating. I think it would be quicker to do a clean reinstall.
For those who can't get into your pc at all, I somehow ended up at a blank desktop with no icons and did the following steps, which at least got me to the point where I had file explorer open, which might allow some of you to rescue some files or figure
out what to do next:
1: Open Task manager with ‘control+shift+esc’ and click on new task and type ‘netplwiz’.
2: Select each user account on Netplwiz and click on Properties>Group membership>Other and change the user account to Administrator by clicking on ‘Apply’ and ‘Ok’. Sign out from user account and sign in back.
3: While Signing in back to the computer ‘Unknown Hard error’ occur click on ‘ok’ whenever prompted for to login. To load user account it may take more than 5 minutes.
4: After login access file explorer through Task manager by going to File>New task> Type ‘C:\’ (admin privilege). This open File explorer go to This PC and Right click on Desktop>Properties>Location and click on Default location.
Might help somebody :-/
