My PC is working really normal before update. After I update my windows 10 the system show this message.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. - OK

Then I click ok after that I only see recycle bin and task bar, which can not do anything background is black, so I restart by using ctrl+alt+delete and run safe mode(safe mode with network).

In safe mode it has no This PC it just has recycle bin and some program and I can't open any file location of any program after that I turn off my pc for 30 sec then open it the result is

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible

Access is denied. -OK

Only recycle bin and task bar and black background again.

I have no idea to fix this problem any more. Please I really need some help. THANK YOU. My English is not professional I hope you understand my message.

Hi Thirut,

Open Windows File Explorer

On the View Ribbon, check the box marked 'Hidden Items'

C:\users\Default\

Right click and copy the Desktop folder contained in the Default Folder

Navigate to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile

Right click and Paste the Desktop folder into the systemprofile folder

Restart (not shut sown) your PC

Once again, I don't know if this will help anyone.

I originally posted that after many hours I returned to a previous backup and then paused all further updates.

Well, I can now report that I have re-run the update and it appears to have completed without error.

I did not change anything in terms of hardware or removed any software, antivirus or otherwise - I use Panda IS by the way.

So, unless Microsoft has changed anything in the update over this last week, I cannot explain why the update would at first fail and then succeed?????

My advise is do many backups and regularly and especially when you see that Shutdown/Restart and Update prompts....

Best of luck to you all

Thx a lot my friend, i should have found this post before reinstalling :D

As i see by the comments it's really effective and easy to do.

Just one thing, i was speaking with my colleague and we realized something, this will work well if the windows update didn't go through and had an error, because for windows if the update "has been completed" this probably wont work and you might have to reinstall keeping the files.

Anyways your solution is pretty good and effective mate, thx a lot once again.

    Best regards
