My PC is working really normal before update. After I update my windows 10 the system show this message.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. - OK
Then I click ok after that I only see recycle bin and task bar, which can not do anything background is black, so I restart by using ctrl+alt+delete and run safe mode(safe mode with network).
In safe mode it has no This PC it just has recycle bin and some program and I can't open any file location of any program after that I turn off my pc for 30 sec then open it the result is
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible
Access is denied. -OK
Only recycle bin and task bar and black background again.
I have no idea to fix this problem any more. Please I really need some help. THANK YOU. My English is not professional I hope you understand my message.

On the View Ribbon, check the box marked 'Hidden Items'
C:\users\Default\
Right click and copy the Desktop folder contained in the Default Folder
Navigate to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile
Right click and Paste the Desktop folder into the systemprofile folder
Restart (not shut sown) your PC

When you get to the desktop Right on the taskbar and execute task Manager, When it loads expand the view by clicking More Details at the bottom of the windows. (at this point i hope you are the account you are trying to log into has admin privileges.) Click on File>Run New Task>Check the create this task with administrative privileges.>Type CMD>at the command prompt type CD\Users>the type Attrib -H C:\Users\Default>click back to the run windows click on browse navigate to the C Drive select Users, right click and copy the desktop folder then browse to the C:\Windows\System32\Config\systemprofile folder and copy the folder there.
I am the IT manager for a large church and school. I finally felt the need to address some of the issues I have experienced. As such I am very aware of the update problem and the issues that it has created. For those that blame Avast antivirus, none of that here, so that is not the cause. Some of you have said it was driver issues, well, before I applied the update on my systems, I updated all the device drivers, and the update still failed. I also have a computer lab that has the exact same equipment for 35 seats. Prior to updating those computers, I disabled our antivirus (Trend) and updated each machines drivers (which were all up to date) cleaned up each drive, ran sfc /scannow from a command prompt, defragmented, deleted unnecessary files, etc. Of those 35 systems, 3 completed the update without any errors. 27 of them completed the update after running the setup.exe from a flash drive after creating the media using Microsoft media creation tool.https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/download-windows-10-1803/6ed583be-c124-4cc5-9c15-fc764c2b89cf . 5 are stuck at 98% complete cycle after running setup. They will get to that point and give me the error that setup could not complete and to restart. I have tried to run the setup 3 times now on each machine, with no luck. Of all the computers I manage, only about 10% were able to complete the upgrade without any error. In my opinion, there is no one issue that is causing this update to fail, be it hardware, or AV, or how you run the update. The only reason that this update is failing is because it was improperly tested before deployment. This update that has crippled a majority of systems is only the fault of one company and that is Microsoft. There needs to be a fix from Microsoft. Update the install that people are downloading as that is what is creating the issues. And turn off your mandatory update for those that need more than 30 days to test your updates.
As often as I use RUN just don't even notice the 'browse' button... certainly makes me want to refresh my mind concerning CMD/dot prompt/etc so I don't lose track of this S**T.
Thanks for your post, have added your info/blog to my .doc concerning this issue. NOT gonna try to replicate this :) of course but good to know for any future issues that may happen. I'm curious as to whether or not you tried the Upgrade solution or not? And whether or not it worked for you?
Not trying to be an ass or such but please remember to do what it seems most of us DIDN'T do: create a full backup before performing major updates, OK? I tell everybody to do this, all the time. Obviously I didn't follow my own rules and paid the cost of many, many hours because of this. There is much free stuff available for this such as Macrium (and many others) so do yourself a favor and don't find yourself in this situation again (I'm not advertising for Macrium, only an example - just search for 'free backup' or such).
Also perhaps read my previous post and/or search the internet about performing "in-place" upgrades over using Windows Update for major updates/upgrades. Personally this issue happened to me because I hadn't used this unit for like 6 months and decided to upgrade it without thinking about my rules. Didn't create a full backup, etc. If I'd done this correctly I would have been able to restore my backup, reinstall, etc. No probs.

I was able to navigate the challenges of not having a desktop or launching windows explorer to fix this issue. I was eventually able to copy over the missing desktop folder (along with everything else just to be safe) and login.
I posted a blog article covering the steps I followed. It may be a bit more than was really needed but it worked and I'm satisfied. You do not need a USB drive, boot disk, ISO image, jump drive, or any $$ to pay someone to reinstall or run the upgrade. Just a little patience, a little skill in using Windows and can click a mouse buttons a bunch of times.
