After update of my windows 10 I got problem Desktop is unavailable

My PC is working really normal before update. After I update my windows 10 the system show this message.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. - OK

Then I click ok after that I only see recycle bin and task bar, which can not do anything background is black, so I restart by using ctrl+alt+delete and run safe mode(safe mode with network). 

In safe mode it has no This PC it just has recycle bin and some program and I can't open any file location of any program after that I turn off my pc for 30 sec then open it the result is 

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible 

Access is denied. -OK

Only recycle bin and task bar and black background again.

I have no idea to fix this problem any more. Please I really need some help. THANK YOU. My English is not professional I hope you understand my message.

Hi Thirut,

Open Windows File Explorer

On the View Ribbon, check the box marked 'Hidden Items'

C:\users\Default\

Right click and copy the Desktop folder contained in the Default Folder

Navigate to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile

Right click and Paste the Desktop folder into the systemprofile folder

Restart (not shut sown) your PC

    Hi Guys,

    One of our clients had the same problem. The problem actually is it is missing the Desktop folder in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile directory. so I just copied the Desktop folder from C:\Users\Username. This is how I did it.

    • Firstly, open the Windows Explorer. If you cannot open the Explorer or cannot see the icon for the Explorer, press Windows + R button and it should bring up the Command Prompt, type in explorer and press Enter. It should open the explorer.
    • Next, go to  C:\Users\Username and copy the Desktop folder.
    • Finally, navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile directory and paste the Desktop folder over here.
    • Restart the machine.

    The error should be fixed now. Another way to fix is using Registry Editor, but I think this is the easiest way to fix this issue.

    I started windows 10 as normal and it got to the missing desktop screen.

    At this stage I inserted the usb stick. Using task master I got to the usb and found windows set up. Clicked on that and away it went.

    It asked me if I wanted to install the updates or leave it till later. I clicked on leave it till later.

    I did not unplug the internet.

    The installation stopped at 81% and re-installed the previous version of windows 10 so when it comes back it is on the page with just the recycle bin.

    At this stage I have given up.

    I have taken my machine to my local friendly IT expert. He has run some tests and has told me that the hard disc has failed. I don't really understand how the failure of the hard disc can cause this sort of problem and is everybody's hard disc failing because of this update?

    Anyway I have told him to replace the hard disc and replace it with SSD. Wait and see!!

    I have now tried to re-install Windows 10 from scratch.

    On a different PC I got the download tool to enable the creation of installation media onto a usb stick.

    I then returned to the problem computer and loaded the usb stick. I changed via bios to order of start up so the computer went to the usb stick first. All seemed to go well  until I got a message stating I could noot upgrade windows from the usb stick and I should upgrade via the existing installation.

    So I started windows and got to the the missing desktop screen. Via task master got to the usb stick and ran windows set up.

    Again everything seemed to go well the installation went well including updates that it had downloaded as part of the process. However it got to about 90% and then stated it was reverting to the previous version of windows. 

    Guess what back to missing desktop!!!

    I am running out of ideas.

    Help.

    Hmmm. Perhaps let us know your EXACT installation procedure?

    Don't get me wrong, you seem to have explained it quite well for now...  Just thinking...

    • Did you allow it to download "updates" & such?
    • Try disabling this option
      • Don't allow it to get updates before installing or such
      • Actually disconnect your computer from the internet also

    So when running this from your messed up install (in Windows, using Command Prompt) ?

    Still seems start you're booting from the USB. Please tell me that I'm incorrect...
