My PC is working really normal before update. After I update my windows 10 the system show this message.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. - OK

Then I click ok after that I only see recycle bin and task bar, which can not do anything background is black, so I restart by using ctrl+alt+delete and run safe mode(safe mode with network).

In safe mode it has no This PC it just has recycle bin and some program and I can't open any file location of any program after that I turn off my pc for 30 sec then open it the result is

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible

Access is denied. -OK

Only recycle bin and task bar and black background again.

I have no idea to fix this problem any more. Please I really need some help. THANK YOU. My English is not professional I hope you understand my message.

Hi Thirut,

Open Windows File Explorer

On the View Ribbon, check the box marked 'Hidden Items'

C:\users\Default\

Right click and copy the Desktop folder contained in the Default Folder

Navigate to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile

Right click and Paste the Desktop folder into the systemprofile folder

Restart (not shut sown) your PC

Thanks for your feedback.  I'm trying to follow exactly what you did but not being that technical am having a bit of a problem.

Like you, I am faced with a black screen.  Start button won't even work.  BUT, I can hit control/alt/delete and get to task manager.  I tried finding and clicking  on the restore command but was unsuccessful as it seems a recovery point had never been created.

Could you walk me through your steps a bit more.  In the "run new task" mode in Task Manager, what exactly am I looking for?

Second you mention that you were "able to run the 1803 Windows patch once I extracted the ISO onto a thumb drive."   I'm not following that.  Were you able in Task Manager to identify the windows patch?  And what did you mean by "extracting the ISO (?) onto a thumb drive"?

Sorry to sound so ignorant but any help you can give will certainly be appreciated and may save me from buying a new computer.

None of the suggestions in this post worked for me. However after jumping through some hoops I was able to fix mine.

-My instance seemed to be caused by a failed Windows update- the user rebooted in the middle of it. In addition to this error message, the background was black and I couldn't get Explorer to open either.

So, using the Browse feature through New Task in Task manager, I was able to run the 1803 Windows patch once I extracted the ISO onto a thumb drive. After this went through, Windows was back to normal.

    Hope this helps you

"Personally I'm not convinced it was a hard drive problem (it may have been in your case, but its not the solution for most people)

By installing a new hard drive, it inevitably meant reinstalling Windows from scratch (which is what probably fixed it).

Whats annoying is there are now 2400+ people having this problem, and still no word from Microsoft. Makes me wonder what the point of these forums is, other than a way for Microsoft to avoid getting hassled by support requests"

After a few weeks and after calming down, I suspect my case wasn't a defective hard drive, but not being exactly sure what to do I bought an SSD and Recovery from HP (Recovery being one of the reasons I searched for a dupe laptop). Maybe I'm lucky enough and just savvy enough to have saved myself some further pain, but am also very well aware of how I was when I bought my first computer. Many here obviously and understandably don't know what to do.

If I were King of the World then Microsoft would in no uncertain terms be held accountable. Crap sites like this, their pretense at "caring" for the customer, doesn't cut it.

I said it a few weeks back - Winduhs 10 is malware and this goes far beyond a class action suit.

I have spent the best part of today re-installing windows and all of the software, which I have lost as a consequence

I am not having problems getting my gmail accounts back into Outlook

As for Microsoft......they have our money and now don't give a damn
