My PC is working really normal before update. After I update my windows 10 the system show this message.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. - OK

Then I click ok after that I only see recycle bin and task bar, which can not do anything background is black, so I restart by using ctrl+alt+delete and run safe mode(safe mode with network).

In safe mode it has no This PC it just has recycle bin and some program and I can't open any file location of any program after that I turn off my pc for 30 sec then open it the result is

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible

Access is denied. -OK

Only recycle bin and task bar and black background again.

I have no idea to fix this problem any more. Please I really need some help. THANK YOU. My English is not professional I hope you understand my message.

Hi Thirut,

Open Windows File Explorer

On the View Ribbon, check the box marked 'Hidden Items'

C:\users\Default\

Right click and copy the Desktop folder contained in the Default Folder

Navigate to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile

Right click and Paste the Desktop folder into the systemprofile folder

Restart (not shut sown) your PC

I totally agree have had multiple emails from users who this happened to all around the same dates but NOTHING from Microsoft. I have other computers and want to turn off the automatic updates so that that does not happen to them. Not sure where or how to do that though. Microsoft needs to respond or take action to correct the issue my computer was fine before this!

Microsoft, anything? This is not an isolated issue and caused by no fault of the users. But your silence is deafening. People are losing time & money because of your error - where is the solution?

So, i spent all night on dancing with tabourines and didn't solve my problem (the same as OP described). This workaround doesn't work. Now, i will try to do clean installation of 1703 update. Also MediaCreationTool is working only WITH LAST version of Windows and you should download ISO somewhere or change some settings in BROWSER (!), this is absolutely disgusting.

I have the same issue.  Last night I got a yellow message for a critical update. On restart it was impossible to make progress (the menus kept coming back to the same option even if 'Exit and Continue' was selected so selected one of the Windows 10 options.

The desktop now comes up with no icons, start menu or operational cmd bar, and the Desktop folder and Documents folders are gone.

    I can't find any C:\Users\Default folder,   only C:\Users\Default.migrated.

My data is still there, but nothing is running.
