My PC is working really normal before update. After I update my windows 10 the system show this message.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. - OK
Then I click ok after that I only see recycle bin and task bar, which can not do anything background is black, so I restart by using ctrl+alt+delete and run safe mode(safe mode with network).
In safe mode it has no This PC it just has recycle bin and some program and I can't open any file location of any program after that I turn off my pc for 30 sec then open it the result is
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible
Access is denied. -OK
Only recycle bin and task bar and black background again.
I have no idea to fix this problem any more. Please I really need some help. THANK YOU. My English is not professional I hope you understand my message.

Open Windows File Explorer
On the View Ribbon, check the box marked 'Hidden Items'
C:\users\Default\
Right click and copy the Desktop folder contained in the Default Folder
Navigate to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile
Right click and Paste the Desktop folder into the systemprofile folder
Restart (not shut sown) your PC
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable"
Encounter the issue on a Windows 10 Home running AVG Antivirus (re: speculative chat about antivirus TechRadar: Windows 10 April 2018 Update’s latest flaw is the mystery of the disappearing desktop).
Resolved the issue with a reinstall from media created (using another machine*) with the Create Windows 10 installation media Download Tool.
*My laptop doesn't use third-party antivirus, instead using Windows 10 Security (Defender, etc.).
The first attempt failed having picked the option Keep personal files and apps. After final restart the same issue was still present; nothing had changed.
The second attempt succeeded by picking the option Keep personal files only i.e. all apps and settings are removed. These options are on the Ready to install and Choose what to keep screens during the reinstall. I also selected the option Not right now on the Get important updates screen.
Without the ability to access the Start menu or Windows Explorer in order to run Windows setup.exe on the installation DVD, I accessed the Task Manager by Right Clicking on the Taskbar.
From the Task Manager File Menu select Run New Task and Browse to setup.exe on the DVD. I found I had to check the Create this task with administrative privileges; without this it didn't seem to run.
On final restart all was well. Folders that appeared empty and files I could not see (via the Run New Task browse window) like pictures and documents had reappeared.
Obviously all the apps will have to be reinstalled.
UPDATE: Since then, Windows Update has run and all is still well. I have not reinstalled AVG antivirus.
Ok, that sounds great but how are we supposed to get to files to uninstall? I can't even get to control panel. So it would be nice if someone could come up with a way to get to our program files so we can uninstall some. Thank you for the input. Hope it works for some.
Most of the people who encounter the issue doesn't have other computer to create installation disk/media
Clean install is not really recommended on this issue, got my issue fix by performing Reset (keep all files option)
You can try to access Windows recovery
Hold down either SHIFT key while tapping or clicking on Restart, available from any Power icon. On this case you can only use the Power icon on the sign in screen
Click on Troubleshoot> Reset PC

other options that you can try is to create "Desktop" folder on the location
C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile
*just tried this steps and got the desktop icons/files back but other features are still not working
You can open command prompt using the task manager
Type in: cd config\systemprofile
then create Desktop folder by using this command :
MKDIR Desktop
*If you encounter Desktop is not accessible/permission issue you can try this method to modify permission
* make sure that you used a wired connection since wireless/wifi is not working

Same problem. System updated when I shut down two nights ago. Haven't been able to get in since.
