My PC is working really normal before update. After I update my windows 10 the system show this message.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. - OK

Then I click ok after that I only see recycle bin and task bar, which can not do anything background is black, so I restart by using ctrl+alt+delete and run safe mode(safe mode with network).

In safe mode it has no This PC it just has recycle bin and some program and I can't open any file location of any program after that I turn off my pc for 30 sec then open it the result is

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible

Access is denied. -OK

Only recycle bin and task bar and black background again.

I have no idea to fix this problem any more. Please I really need some help. THANK YOU. My English is not professional I hope you understand my message.

Hi Thirut,

Open Windows File Explorer

On the View Ribbon, check the box marked 'Hidden Items'

C:\users\Default\

Right click and copy the Desktop folder contained in the Default Folder

Navigate to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile

Right click and Paste the Desktop folder into the systemprofile folder

Restart (not shut sown) your PC

Haven't had time to be involved in this thread lately but gonna throw in my latest thoughts...

Some users perhaps don't understand "patching" and/or "updating" or such.  Basically "patching" means updating Windows, sometimes this only means running "Windows Update" or such.  But this can also relate to many other operations such as re-installing Windows, performing an in-place upgrade, etc, etc.

Also most don't bother to fully read the entire thread before trying various "fixes" etc.  I have not read through this thread for many months, however as I still receive notifications just decided to post my thoughts concerning these past few...

A few months back I posted a solution that works.  Other members have also posted solutions that perhaps work also.  My solution was to perform an "in-place" upgrade [of course this involved being able to get cmd etc or such.  If you have the same issue read the thread]

I've purposely messed up my Windows installation at least a dozen times just to repeat this process [easiest way is remove the thumb drive during installation and/or reboot the unit when it tells you NOT to do this].  I've been able to recover always, 100%.  And if data isn't important don't waste time, why not perform a fresh installation anyway.

Actually these days I prefer to perform an "in-place" upgrade anytime there's a major Windows update.  Just download the ISO/USB/etc/whatever you prefer, then perform the "in-place" upgrade.  This will keep/save all of your data/software/progs and you will have a better experience.  This also applies to previous versions of Windows.

BTW I'm certainly not "bashing" or "complaining" or stating that I'm "smarter" or such etc concerning any member involved in this post/thread.  Better to spend time finding solutions.

Take care, good luck.  And always read everything/follow directions.  This helps everyone.  Gnight.

Fair  enough man, it's more the fact that people with the extra resources/techs (like me) can't weed through all the responses to find something that works.

It's not a high-horse thing, it's just an actual 'solution' thing. Glad you got it figured out

I posted the solution that worked for me below, but it's buried now with people that reinstalled windows and called it a solution.

Basically this is a failed patch install. The solution I found was to reinstall the newest Windows patch over the top, and it fixed everything and I was back to before the issue happened.

    1. Download latest Windows full patch, right now I believe 1803 or 1809, which will be a .ISO file.

2.Extract all files from the patch onto a thumb drive. All this must be done on another computer.

3.On defective computer, hit CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to bring up task manager. You may have to click "more options" to see menu.

4.Under File menu, top left, click "run new task", and "browse". This is the only way I was able to access my file system.

5.Find your thumb drive with extracted Windows patch, and run the Setup file. This will kick off the patch like normal.

After reboot you will be good to go. This has worked for 2 computers now for me, so I think it's the fix.

If this works for you, please give feedback so it doesn't get buried again. Waste to see so many struggle still.

You bash people who had no choice but to reinstall windows , you don't understand their situations and reasoning why. We don't all have the luxury of having more than one computer. So yes in my case I had to resort to wiping out everything on my laptop. Don't get me wrong, I tried other suggestions on this post and to no avail. Don't judge and act high and mighty with your "resolution" without knowing other people's situation. Just sayin'
