My PC is working really normal before update. After I update my windows 10 the system show this message.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. - OK
Then I click ok after that I only see recycle bin and task bar, which can not do anything background is black, so I restart by using ctrl+alt+delete and run safe mode(safe mode with network).
In safe mode it has no This PC it just has recycle bin and some program and I can't open any file location of any program after that I turn off my pc for 30 sec then open it the result is
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible
Access is denied. -OK
Only recycle bin and task bar and black background again.
I have no idea to fix this problem any more. Please I really need some help. THANK YOU. My English is not professional I hope you understand my message.

Open Windows File Explorer
On the View Ribbon, check the box marked 'Hidden Items'
C:\users\Default\
Right click and copy the Desktop folder contained in the Default Folder
Navigate to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile
Right click and Paste the Desktop folder into the systemprofile folder
Restart (not shut sown) your PC
I gave up trying to solve the problem. My local IT expert told me the hard disc was failing which caused the problem. This might be true for mine PC but surely not everyone has a dodgy hard disc.
Anyway the hard disc was replaced with an SSD and everything is now running smoothly till the next update????
Has anyone managed to solve this issue. I have been trying for 3 whole days.
I am amazed at the lack of response from Microsoft. It is quite obvious that Windows updates have been causing problems for years......why so silent.
I am seriously considering sending Microsoft a bill for wasted time, data etc

I have the same issue as of today 5/18/2018.
Normally I completely disable windows updates because 10 out 10 times my computer gets broken it's because of windows updates, but somehow this new update managed to install even after the service was disabled.
I finally managed to backup my data by using the browse feature under new task of the task manager since the explorer program seems to be missing. I tried searching for corrupt data using cmd and it found nothing.
I've found similar reports like this from windows vista 8 years ago, and none of the suggestions have worked so far.
Gregory, just how did you back up your data? I have exactly the same problem (exactly) and can't advance past that blank screen. Start button won't work but I can do control/alt/delete and open task manager.
I have an Acer laptop and this happened to me last night. After reading through pages of tips and trying anything and everything I finally managed to back up my files by ctrl-alt-del to open task manager then create a new task - c: and browse. This will open up file manager, on the bottom right change the setting to all files and your files will appear in the folders. You should then be able to copy your important files to an external device before reinstalling windows. Good luck!
