My PC is working really normal before update. After I update my windows 10 the system show this message.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. - OK
Then I click ok after that I only see recycle bin and task bar, which can not do anything background is black, so I restart by using ctrl+alt+delete and run safe mode(safe mode with network).
In safe mode it has no This PC it just has recycle bin and some program and I can't open any file location of any program after that I turn off my pc for 30 sec then open it the result is
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible
Access is denied. -OK
Only recycle bin and task bar and black background again.
I have no idea to fix this problem any more. Please I really need some help. THANK YOU. My English is not professional I hope you understand my message.

Open Windows File Explorer
On the View Ribbon, check the box marked 'Hidden Items'
C:\users\Default\
Right click and copy the Desktop folder contained in the Default Folder
Navigate to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile
Right click and Paste the Desktop folder into the systemprofile folder
Restart (not shut sown) your PC
i actually used AVG on my work laptop and its still not working (i havent tried the using a usb stick)

Found that deleting the Avast anti-virus brought everything back. What's crazy is that Avast was working so well up to that point. Guess I'm going back to AVG. Never had problems with that!
I had this issue as well. I tried everything suggested, and a few more options. After a week with no luck, I ended up downloading Windows 10 installation files from microsoft.com, and proceeded with a new installation via USB stick. I tried the Repair option, but that did not work either.
You need to pick Advanced in the setup screen. This wiped out all my files and settings, but my laptop is back up and running. It did not prompt me for my activation serial, that must have been stored on my laptop as it came preinstalled when I purchased it. Its not the best solution, but I just wanted my laptop running again. I hope this helps someone.

Today in the morning, i ran into the same issue. Last night I updated my pc (driver update-- via: settings/Windows Update.
When i stared it in the morning, i noticed that login time was unusual (more than 5 mins). There was only A single icon: Recycle Bin with that Desktop error.. meanwhile I was able to see files with the help of R.bin.
I do not expect fix from Microsoft, earlier when Pc were getting stucked at Date & time screen, login option was unavailable, i fixed it myself with hard shutdown.
Same here, i own a HP pc so firstly i went for driver updates, there were 8 pending updates including BIOS update. I updated'em all. I even updated Windows too, bcoz i found a cumulative update.
Restarted my Pc, Bios got updated, windows got updated..& finaly issue got eliminated.
