My PC is working really normal before update. After I update my windows 10 the system show this message.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. - OK

Then I click ok after that I only see recycle bin and task bar, which can not do anything background is black, so I restart by using ctrl+alt+delete and run safe mode(safe mode with network).

In safe mode it has no This PC it just has recycle bin and some program and I can't open any file location of any program after that I turn off my pc for 30 sec then open it the result is

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible

Access is denied. -OK

Only recycle bin and task bar and black background again.

I have no idea to fix this problem any more. Please I really need some help. THANK YOU. My English is not professional I hope you understand my message.

Hi Thirut,

Open Windows File Explorer

On the View Ribbon, check the box marked 'Hidden Items'

C:\users\Default\

Right click and copy the Desktop folder contained in the Default Folder

Navigate to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile

Right click and Paste the Desktop folder into the systemprofile folder

Restart (not shut sown) your PC

MrQ, don't despair completely, if you try the on/off switch solution i mentioned yesterday it will at least get you back to a previous version of Windows and give you time to delay the auto uodate and also thinking time of what to do next.

    Thank you Txhamguy

Your very detailed reply is much appreciated.

Sadly it does not work for me.

When the problem first appeared a week ago there were blue screens with options available (I tried those but none worked)

Now the only blue screens are telling me that the update is in progress after which it all goes blank.

I have a black screen with the "C....  Desktop is unavailble" error message

and a partial task bar none of which works.  There is no internet connection although the internet light shows positive

If I try ctrl - alt - delete and sign out but just goes round in a loop.

Windows +R works but using CMD I only get the user and not administrator privileges

so cannot follows Scannow or DISM

    Windows +X does not work

    Start does not work

I have managed to get Task Manager but have no idea how to use it

    I can access BIOS

That is as far as I go for now.  Tomorrow I shall go and buy a USB ready for any fix or for a clean install (reluctant to do this as I may lose what is on the computer)

Thank you again and for any further ideas

    MrQ

    Thanks for posting it,

On the first time of trying it took me back to the blue screen, but it worked 2nd time.

For the record I have 2 laptops both had Avast on them. 1 Acer with an SSD updated fine, the other Lenover with a hybrid SSD+HDD had the lost desktop problem.

I have disabled Windows update and removed the anti virus even though I don't think it is their fault.

I did not come up with the solution-someone else posted it & I tried it & it worked.  That's what's great about working together with lots of talented folks who only want to help each other for the value of it, not money.  Good luck!
