File Explorer may not detect other devices or perform file sharing on the local network when running Windows 10 version 1803

After installing the Windows 10 April 2018 Update (Windows 10 version 1803), File Explorer cannot connect to other devices running version 1803.  When clicking the Network tab in File Explorer, other devices on the home network running version 1803 do not appear, and thus I’m not able to perform file sharing or access files on other devices on my home network.

Microsoft is aware of reports that devices running Windows 10 version 1803 cannot connect to other devices on their home network and is investigating the issue.

You can resolve this problem by setting some services to Automatic (Delayed Start) and restarting Windows:

  1. Press the Windows Key and R at the same time to bring up the Run dialog.
  2. Type services.msc in the Run dialog and press Enter.
  3. For each of the following services, locate the service in list, right-click the service and select Properties.  Then set the Startup type to Automatic (Delayed Start) and select Apply.
    • Computer Browser (Browser)
    • Function Discovery Provider Host (FDPHost)
    • Function Discovery Resource Publication (FDResPub)
    • Network Connections (NetMan)
    • UPnP Device Host (UPnPHost)
    • Peer Name Resolution Protocol (PNRPSvc)
    • Peer Networking Grouping (P2PSvc)
    • Peer Networking Identity Manager (P2PIMSvc)
  4. Restart Windows.

    The amount of work you have put into this is incredible, and should be totally unnecessary. As you said, you, or any of us, should not have to fix Microsoft's problem. It's just plain arrogant, and inconsiderate to say the least. Wish there was a good alternative. And I see that Microsoft is coddling businesses to try to win back those who have left. Where does that leave us home-users? I guess we don't count. Is it time to look into what else is out there? And will it be beneficial, or just more headaches, unless everyone else does the same??

    I had my mother's machine on Lynx for a while. (Probably even spelled it wrong)  She couldn't afford Win.   It's doable.  If they keep up the messes I may leave.   Lots of homeowners can't afford to change because of the knowledge and convenience gap but I'm over 60 and I think I can still adapt if Microsoft keeps on messing up.   Just my opinion.

    does not fix the problem on some machines you donot have a computer browser tab

    Thanks for your quick reply. Computer Browser is not included in the services list on this computer. I bought this unit as a refurbished computer with windows already installed from Office Depot and refurbished by Joy Systems. I will try to include a snippet of the services list where I think Computer Browser should be. I see in the community where this fix is not consistently working. The computer I need to connect to is an old Dell with windows xp . It is connected to my CNC controller for G code (text) transmission to control the wood router. Should I make the changes anyway without the Computer Browser
