Has anybody found a solution to this very annoying problem? Why has Microsoft not responded?
"System Restore failed to extract the file (...\OneDrive) from the restore point."
Since updating to Windows 1803, system protection does not work. Restore will not restore from the restore point created during the update. Nor will it restore from any new restore point I create. I get the message:
System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.
Details:
System Restore failed to extract the file (<the path on my system>\OneDrive) from the restore point. An unspecified error occurred during the System Resotre. (0x8007018b)"
This is the same result if I attempt to restore to the point that the Windows 1803 upgrade occurred. And if I attempt to restore to a point I created immediately after the upgrade. And if I attempt to restore to a point created immediately before I attempt to restore to it. In other words. It is not possible for me to create a restore point and restore to it.
On the rare occasions when I attempted a restore in the past, it worked okay.
I tried this on another machine also recently updated to Windows 1803. The restore point creation then restoration worked correctly. The only obvious difference between the two is that the machine on which the restore worked had only a C:\ drive. The machine on which the restore fails uses a restore point that covers two drives and the OneDrive file that cannot be recovered is on the non-C: drive.

2018-12-08T04:36:34+00:00 This is not a true solution to the problem. but I have found that to avoid this problem, I always make sure I have Quit OneDrive before creating a restore point. If I do that, I have no problems later doing a restore.

2018-12-08T13:57:56+00:00 Thanks, Tom Breckon.
That's great news if you're sure. I'll definitely try it.
A little more information might save me time testing. Did you have the problem before you started quitting OneDrive? How many times did you create a restore point that worked after quitting OneDrive.
As you know from my original post, I was not sure the problem was OneDrive related. Your experience points in that direction. Hopefully OneDrive folks are paying attention.

2018-12-08T17:49:37+00:00 I did encounter the problem when trying to restore after having done some software testing. I have since twice tested a restore point on the same computer created with OneDrive off, and each time restored without trouble. I have not gone back to complete the testing loop by trying again to duplicate the original problem.

2018-12-29T00:51:46+00:00 Since the error shows a file in the OneDrive folder, I logged out of OneDrive, created a restore point, and then tried to restore to that point. However, I still get the same error. Nothing in these posts is helping. Microsoft??
