PC won't boot to Windows 10 from SSD

I bought my PC years ago with only a HDD. I added a SSD myself afterwards. When I booted my PC after a hard shutdown/electricity fallout I had only my HDD in BIOS. I then boot from HDD, get an error and let the PC reboot. After a few times the SSD would be recognized in BIOS and I could change the SSD to default.

I got tired of this proccess a few days ago and found a tip to disable the hdd-partition with diskpart. The first time I had a hardreset again (mouse and keyboard froze and pc didn't shutdown with a single press on startbutton), I couldn't do the HDD boot-trick and tried changing the cables from hdd to ssd (ssd in sata1). This didn't help. In diskpart I made the SSD partition active. I now can see the SSD in BIOS, but booting gives an error "An operating system wasn't found.". When I retry diskpart, the partition could be made active again. It seems like this resets..

Bootrec.exe /FixMbr was successful

Bootrec.exe /FixBoot gives no access error (there could be some parts left of a dual boot setup)

chkdsk gives no problems found

Mediatool boot:

  • This PC can't be recovered with start-uprepair.
  • You need to choose which installation of Windows you would like to put back when using Systemrecovery.
  • Reboot, select a operating system and select Systemrecovery. No systemcopy available.

How could I make my pc boot again?

SSD: Kingston SV200 (128GB)

HDD: ST1509DL003-9V (1500GB)

    I just flashed the ISO of Windows 10 to an USB with Rufus (https://www.windowscentral.com/how-create-windows-10-usb-bootable-media-uefi-support).

    The first boot (UEFI) I needed to fill in my password of the SSD Windows User, but the repair failed.

    The last two commands of BOOTREC even didn't succeed.

    The second boot (USB KEY) I didn't need to fill in the password and FIXBOOT did work, but REBUILDBCD not. Same errors as above.

    Hi,

    I don't have a clue as to why your EFI is in the Root, and not a separate partition... That is the default when windows installs...

    Check through the UEFI Boot Drive BBS Priorities options and see what you get..

    Is your machine encrypted in some fashion... I'm wondering if the selection of a Encryption Key at Boot is part of the problem...

    I don't have a clue as to why the flash drive created with RUFUS would require a password for the SSD... I use RUFUS a lot, and have never seen that before.. Did RUFUS mention anything about a password when creating the flash drive ?

    One thing I have noticed with RUFUS is that sometimes when you change one of the menu options, it will cause another to change... Sometimes the FAT32 or GPT will change when you select the Image you want to use...

    Also look to see if your Bios has a "Secure Boot" setting... If it does, Disable it temporarily...

    BTW... You want the Legacy USB Support Enabled..

    Hi,

    Something is not right here... I just realized the "WindowsBootManager" is missing from your options in third image you posted...

    That may be why it won't boot, and what needs fixed, but it might also be because your machine might not be using UEFI Bios...

    That, and the missing EFI Partition...

    Out of curiosity, you might try checking your Bios to verify it is using UEFI, or create another flash drive with RUFUS specifically for Legacy Bios... 

    This image is for Win7, but shows what your options should look like, except for the ISO image name... Notice the MBR and NTFS settings...

    In reply to your first post:

    • UEFI Boot Drive BBS Priorities: has only boot priority from different devices, no further settings available.
    • No encryption activated, just a administrator user with a password in Windows which I always use. You may be confused by the name of a USB-drive which has encryption in it's modelname. 
    • No secure boot available as far as I can see, only the possibility to set a administrator and user password (for BIOS I think).

    Second one:

    • I can't remember seeing "WindowsBootManager" at the boot device priority. To be sure: those are just the hardware devices and the order of boot attempts trough them.
    • No signs of a UEFI BIOS, but the function "Legacy USB Support" should mean it is that, right?
    • I will flash another image now!

    With the legacy image, same /fixboot access denied error. Startuprepair doesn't work either..
