PC won't boot to Windows 10 from SSD

I bought my PC years ago with only a HDD. I added a SSD myself afterwards. When I booted my PC after a hard shutdown/electricity fallout I had only my HDD in BIOS. I then boot from HDD, get an error and let the PC reboot. After a few times the SSD would be recognized in BIOS and I could change the SSD to default.

I got tired of this proccess a few days ago and found a tip to disable the hdd-partition with diskpart. The first time I had a hardreset again (mouse and keyboard froze and pc didn't shutdown with a single press on startbutton), I couldn't do the HDD boot-trick and tried changing the cables from hdd to ssd (ssd in sata1). This didn't help. In diskpart I made the SSD partition active. I now can see the SSD in BIOS, but booting gives an error "An operating system wasn't found.". When I retry diskpart, the partition could be made active again. It seems like this resets..

Bootrec.exe /FixMbr was successful

Bootrec.exe /FixBoot gives no access error (there could be some parts left of a dual boot setup)

chkdsk gives no problems found

Mediatool boot:

  • This PC can't be recovered with start-uprepair.
  • You need to choose which installation of Windows you would like to put back when using Systemrecovery.
  • Reboot, select a operating system and select Systemrecovery. No systemcopy available.

How could I make my pc boot again?

Motherboard: MS-7728

BIOS version: E7728MLN.209

SSD: Kingston SV200 (128GB)

HDD: ST1509DL003-9V (1500GB)

    I will test them tomorrow. 

    Because I was about to start the upgrade without the USB drive, I removed it. Now I even can't reboot (stuck at spinning dots Reboot) and need to hard shutdown again..

    I can't run the mounted Windows 10 ISO without the USB flash drive (no external drives, virus software stopped). It stucks at PC checking with spinning dots. The moment I add back the USB drive, it gives this error: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3086249/we-couldn-t-update-system-reserved-partition-error-installing-windows 

    There is indeed a reserved NTFS-partition of 549MB (D:) on the SSD, which seems to be empty.

    Booting from the DVD (without starting Windows first) isn't working either. 

    Rebuildbcd gives "the requested system device is not found".

    When windows does boot with the USB drive plugged in and I reboot, no problems. When I reboot and remove the USB drive when the screen is black, I get the famous "OS wasn't found" error again. I reboot from the error message, plugin the drive when the screen is black again and it boots to Windows.

    Hi,

    We are running out of options...

    I don't think you want to run your machine with the flash drive plugged in forever, but that is an option..

    Another option is to use Partition Wizard to look at the contents of the System Reserved partition... I don't know how big the "Downloads Folder" is, but it's contents could probably be safely deleted.. That might be enough..

    I actually delete the entire partition. Then when I do a upgrade to a new build, Windows usually creates a new one...

    Another option would be to try the repair again with the HDD hooked up and "Not Hidden"... Maybe the needed boot files can be found there, since it was hooked up when you installed Win 10 to the SSD...

    Something else to check out of curiosity... Look in MSCONFIG at the BOOT Tab... Do you see more then one OS listed ?

    I still don't understand why the repaired boot files were placed on the flash drive, and not the SSD... unless maybe they were intended for the HDD and it wasn't there..

    One more option I almost forgot about... That would be to try the "Rebuild MBR" feature in Partition Wizard... As I mentioned before, that could be dangerous...

    I do remember being involved in another thread in which someone used Partition Wizard to fix a boot problem that was not getting fixed With Microsoft methods... Unfortunately I am unable to locate it for better details...

    Hi,

     A question... just to refresh my memory... Your SSD is set as the 1st boot device in Bios, correct ?

    Another thing concerning the attempt to do a Repair Installation...

    I'm thinking that if it refuses to procede without the flash drive plugged in, It may not fix the boot problem...
