PC won't boot to Windows 10 from SSD

I bought my PC years ago with only a HDD. I added a SSD myself afterwards. When I booted my PC after a hard shutdown/electricity fallout I had only my HDD in BIOS. I then boot from HDD, get an error and let the PC reboot. After a few times the SSD would be recognized in BIOS and I could change the SSD to default.

I got tired of this proccess a few days ago and found a tip to disable the hdd-partition with diskpart. The first time I had a hardreset again (mouse and keyboard froze and pc didn't shutdown with a single press on startbutton), I couldn't do the HDD boot-trick and tried changing the cables from hdd to ssd (ssd in sata1). This didn't help. In diskpart I made the SSD partition active. I now can see the SSD in BIOS, but booting gives an error "An operating system wasn't found.". When I retry diskpart, the partition could be made active again. It seems like this resets..

Bootrec.exe /FixMbr was successful

Bootrec.exe /FixBoot gives no access error (there could be some parts left of a dual boot setup)

chkdsk gives no problems found

Mediatool boot:

  • This PC can't be recovered with start-uprepair.
  • You need to choose which installation of Windows you would like to put back when using Systemrecovery.
  • Reboot, select a operating system and select Systemrecovery. No systemcopy available.

How could I make my pc boot again?

Motherboard: MS-7728

BIOS version: E7728MLN.209

SSD: Kingston SV200 (128GB)

HDD: ST1509DL003-9V (1500GB)

    I am confused too ;)

    FixMBR worked (as always), fixboot failed (as always).

    Let me take some screenshots (sorry for the Dutch text, but you will recognize the buttons and locations..).

    Booting

    Language/keyboard choise:

    Install (big button) or repair (down left-corner)

    Choose for Install (big button); put the windows activation code or skip it:

    Choose for upgrade (online from within windows so boot from ssd+usb drive) or clean (deletes everything).

    Choose for Repair: shutdown or solve problems

    Choose for solve problems: different options.

    First column first row is going back to saved point in history (none for the "crash).

    First column second row is back to different version of Windows (SSD has clean windows 10 install)

    First column third row is repair with installationfile (gives error no file available on pc, asks for back-up)

    Second column first row is startup repair, always of no help.

    Second column second row is command prompt used for bootrec.

    Hi,

    I guess I'm confused...

    I'm not talking about Install or upgrading anything from the DVD...

    Although it is possible to do both...

    The Upgrade\Repair would be best done from the mounter ISO, but you could use the DVD...

    I thought you were saying that there was no "REPAIR" option to get to the command prompt when booting with the DVD... You can do that correct... and got the "The requested system device cannot be found” error ?

    Did the first two bootrec commands work this time ?

    There is a REPAIR option on the lower left of the Install screen... correct ?

    It makes a big difference... If you are not booting from the DVD properly, you could actually be getting partially into Windows on the SSD...

    Now I see.. 

    I do see the button INSTALL, but it lets me choose between Upgrade and Install just windows.

    The Upgrade is what we want because it keeps files and programs. But when I choose that one, it says it could only be runned within Windows itself and then opening the DVD to run the setup.

    That last is what I tried.

    There is a small button in the down-left corner which lets be choose between Solve problems and Shutdown.

    Btw, if I run bootrec /rebuildbcd from the DVD booted, the actual error is The requested system device cannot be found”

    Hi,

    The DVD should look\work just like the flash drive... Just slower...

    The first thing you should see after the Windows Icon is INSTALL...

    If not, the DVD is not created correctly... Media Creation Tool burned the DVD ?

    Same thing when trying to do the Repair Install... It needs to copy a lot of files... Where are you seeing the spinning dots ?

    I will check on my machine so I can get a better idea of what you should see...

    I booted to Windows, mounted the DVD in windows to start it and removed the flash drive. Then I started the DVD to install and keep apps+files. The spinning dots are still in windows, before any reboot. 

    When I boot from the DVD, created ISO which is burned both by Windows media creation tool, I don't see repair? 

    The BOOTREC commands don't work on the DVD booted either, elements not found or so. Legacy/UEFI problem?
