State of Decay 2 crashes on startup

I have the same problem.

I´m from Argentina. I´ve tried everything that´s been posted in this forum and nothing has worked.

I can´t believe Microsoft is so careless about this subject, being one of the biggest companies in the world.

It´s unbelievable how many different updates are required to use my computer in peace. It wouldn´t bother me that much if they actually helped my PC work better, but on the contrary, It makes it slower, and makes apps don´t work anymore.

We´re not even talking about an old game that´s been left out of mantainance. We´re talking about a game that´s been out for just a few months and should work just fine.

How can Microsoft let something like this happen? I mean, one guy (whoever is in charge of updates and planning) decides to make an update and doesn´t realize it causes issues like this. Ok, that could happen, but the solution and fix should be inmediately released as well.

As soon as this issue is fixed, every user who got in to this forum looking for help, should receive an e-mail from Microsoft with the steps on how to fix it, along with an apology. 

Microsoft Store works TERRIBLY, I can´t how slow it is and how much does it take to make a purchase and a download. It´s just a game, it should be SO easy to make it work. It should also let us enter the folder where the game is installed. I can´t even add Microsoft games to the firewall exceptions list because I can´t access the file location. You try so hard to encompass all markets that end up not being the best at any of them.

Big mistake from Undead Labs to ally with and sell the game through Microsoft. Big image damage. We´ve been waiting SOD2 for so long and we can´t even play it because of some stupid update we didn´t even need to play it. Then you wonder why people download non authentic videogames. Right now, I feel like I´ve been robbed. I spent a lot of money on this game (Argentina´s money´s value is very very low) just to be able to play with my brother before he leaves, and now neither of us can. 

Please, help me fix it.

I bought three copies, for me and two other friends. Only one of my friend has been able to play. my copy crashes on start up, my other friend can't even download past 28mb. any help would be appreciated.

Check that you language is set to English (USA) SOD2 doesn't like other language packs much. If this doesn't solve your problem, I recommend you hit them on Discord, that is about the best way of getting support.

As for the 28mb download, it is the way the MS Store works. It will download between 20 and 35mb, then sit there for 15 to 20 minutes doing nothing before continuing the download. If you don't interrupt it, it should complete.

I had the same problem and finally after testing a bit of every proposed solutions **I've find the way to fix the crash (at least in my case).**These are the exact steps I've used (probably not every step is mandatory but I report them as I've done).

1. install and apply the English US language package on windows from settings
2. restart the system
3. click on the windows start icon and type "state of decay 2" for search, then right click on its icon->manage->reset app data
4. click on the windows start icon and type "wsreset" and execute the first result, it will open a black prompt, wait till it close by itself (it's resetting the windows store settings)
5. restart the system
6. open the xbox app, ensure you're logged in that app, it's mandatory for the game functioning
7. start the game, it now should work

If after all this the game works, you can rechange the system language to your preference but beware, you mustn't remove the English US language pack after the crash solving, cause this will make the game return to crash again at startup. The package must be present even if not applied as main system language.

An hypothesis I've got about this bug it's that the game notifies the achivements during the game in the english language, even if the system language is set to an another, so when the package is not installed in the system, the game tries indipendently to find the english strings, but failing, resulting in a crash.

Thanks OCeLot. I performed your steps, but that did not immediately solve the issue. However, after reinstaling and redownloading the game it worked fine. So maybe a combination of your steps + reinstall afterwards is a good combination / robust combination of steps to perform in order to get it working.

My hypothesis would be that after changing the language, you need to redownload the game, because then it downloads the game with a different language? 

So for everyone: follow the steps from OCeLot, if it does not work immediately, reinstall and redownload the game.
