I have recently re-installed Windows 10. When I installed it I was forced to create a pin. I was able to remove the pin once I'd logged on but now every time I reboot my computer Windows insists that I create a pin for it, claiming "We think you'll like it". I don't like it, I like using my password and I find this incredibly annoying and intrusive; it takes me an extra 30 seconds to log in because I have to jump through a dozen hoops to skip the pin creation. How do I disable the pin feature on Windows 10? I don't want it to ever prompt me to create a pin again.

Cancel the PIN prompt and login to your PC
Go to Windows Defender Security Centre icon on the tray.
Under 'Account Protection' go to 'Set up Windows Hello for faster, more secure sign-in'
Click 'Set-up', it will prompt you to set up a pin - don't.
Click "Dismiss"
After that, there should be no more prompting at startup

Under 'Account Protection' go to 'Set up Windows Hello for faster, more secure sign-in'
Click 'Set-up', it will prompt you to set up a pin - don't.

After that, there should be no more prompting at startup

I have tried this but in my case the PIN request still comes again at the next login. I tried to reconfigure Cortana (I had disabled it while trying to fix this problem!), and also to work via Windows Defender panel, so far no success.
Where I go off track is:
"Click 'Set-up', it will prompt you to set up a pin - don't.
Click "Dismiss" "
There is no dismiss button on the next screen, I can only continue to the enter PIN screen, where I can cancel.
There is a Dismiss displayed under the Defender protection panel, which I have clicked.
The taskbar is showing a Microsoft account program is running when the login is finished (not completed?) which I can close!
So far no way to turn off the PIN request, however there is a bypass of selecting password during login.
It turns out that setting a PIN and then cancelling it did NOT provide an ongoing solution.
Today I noted that at log-in there were two options: signing in with my Microsoft account (password) or doing so with Windows Hello.
Choosing the former avoided the "set up your PIN" process.
My fingers are crossed that (at worst) doing this each time I log in will avoid the insanity.
Meanwhile we can hope that Microsoft changes this in the next iteration - without holding our collective breath, of course.

I did that and it didn't work for me. Is there another way?
Just as an FYI for other frustrated users with this problem:
Looking on the Net, I found a number of different solutions - some of which were challenging to follow because the "search' function in Cortana now (post-update thank you Microsoft NOT) UNhelpfully searches the Internet rather than my computer.
What DID work for me was going in, setting the PIN and then subsequently cancelling it. As a result, I am now able to access my computer with password alone, as before.
I can only hope that this happy state of affairs continues.
