April 2018 update broke Chrome browser (Cryptographic Services bug)

Still working around this issue? I have 2 x Xeon CPUs, and 36GB ram (win 10 hogging 16GB just browsing). I am to the point I use Win10 for nothing else but some video editing software I will soon learn to live without. Unfortunately my Daughter is online home schooled and I need to figure out a good fix for her PC. Ubuntu? I cant stand and watch over her shoulder all of the time!

hi! actually its still working pretty good . i have win 10 (1809) with 16gb ram (corsair), cpu: i7 ddr5 MSI, graphics: amd radeon 7700. i did a LOT of research about this topic, tried a few things but it didnt  worked. i was getting frustrated until i got here. and BOOM , it really worked .  before i wrote this i also checked again to see if its still working and it does. you should try it. 

Thank you I did try this on my work station and it is working great for me. Since school is out in one week, Im going to setup dual boot win10/linux for my 12 yr old so she can learn to use both, since to me this looks like a shot at Chrome, and although Edge browser is very nice, Chrome also has its good attributes.

Changing the CryptSvc logon to Local system account will break future software updates, including Windows updates.  Changing it to Local system does solve the CryptSvc blockage when opening sites, but the downside is pretty severe.

A better fix is to disable user added Certificate Authorities, which are seldom used (if you're not a developer or digging around in web certificates) with this .reg file CA HKLM_Pol_PR-DisableCA.reg  (This may appear as a .mp3 file.  Download and inspect with Notepad.  It really is a .reg registry file.)

The real cleanup is to delete (rebuilds automatically, cleanly) the registry data at:

 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\Root

as described earlier in this thread.

This is also a good answer @LarryLACa Thank you for spending the time to help us all with this issue!  I do some web development (mostly software apps), and mostly use linux for that, but also rely pretty heavily on having a healthy Windows environment for testing and running some apps. I saw some mention of a possible correlation between this issue and AV. I do not run antivirus on my work stations (LAN) and seem to have this problem anytime I let Win10 fully update. I didn't see your reply and changed CryptSvc logon to local system. Now, as you said, windows update and troubleshooting is not working for me. Is there any option to fix this?
