Stop asking me to create a PIN!

Patience, young Jedi, in time someone will publish a work-around. There's almost always a way.

Technically, there already is a way... Quite a few of them even. They go by names that often, though not exclusively, end in "x". Seriously, I use and like Windows and hope the best for Microsoft. But I also use other operating systems. And every time something like this happens, I find myself booting into something else more often... Finding more ways to comfortably stay in other OSes.

Yeah, I know... I'm not Microsoft's target audience and they don't care. Still I think this represents a missed opportunity for them to better retain customers in a rapidly changing world.

Microsoft actually is trying to re-define security, and that's a good thing, but they're going about it in their usual ham-fisted way.

Forcing users to choose a PIN seems to be deliberate on the part of Microsoft. I got around it by crashing the page that asked for a PIN, which let me bypass it. That may not work anymore.

None of those options worked.  Setting up my pin to be the same as my password looked like it was saving my pin somewhere else.  Since I don't know what that's for I decided against it.  Well done Microsoft.  I really appreciate you making my account safer by requiring a 4 digit pin instead of a mixed alphanumeric password with symbols.

I also had this problem and what solved it for me was to verify my identity on this pc. Go to start -> your profile picture -> account settings. For me there was a small text "You have to verify your identity on this computer" and then I had to verify that it was me with an authentication code sent via email/text message. After doing so the pin dialog never showed again.
