Windows 10, multi Monitor, maximized window blank/empty space on top of screen

This problem happens with all windows when maximized. 

When the window is maximized there is a bar at the top of the screen through which i can see my desktop. Its like that range that the window can maximize has been shortened.

We did install all the latest and greatest patch that are available of today and nothing seems to work.

In that Reddit thread, there is a suggestion that worked for me.

Right click desktop, go to Intel HD Graphics settings. Select Display and then choose the option Scale Full Screen. Make sure the option Override Application Settings has the checkbox marked.

Same annoying issue here on Windows 10 x64 1803 with all updates until now!

The issue appears on several apps (chrome, IE, eagle, ...) so it does'nt depends on the app.

My setup is: 2x HDMI/DVI 24" Monitors on an Radeon HD 5450. Internal Intel GPU is not used.

The issue just happend recently sind a few weeks.

I have found an workaround which helps at least for me:

 * Open Task Manager

 * Goto Tab Details

 * select dwm.exe and click "Kill Proccess"

dwm.exe will be closed and restarted automatically from windows and issue is gone.

Yeah i'll know, its a rather annoying workaround but the quickest for me until a real solution pops up.

    Hello BibekChaulagain,

    I would like to more information regarding the concern so that we can identify the root cause of the problem:

    • How many monitors do you have connected to your computer?
    • Are each of the monitor has a dedicated GPU?
    • Is this only happening to a specific app (In this case, Google Chrome)?
    • What is the current version and build number of your Windows 10?

    Just type winver then press Enter to check the version and build number of your Windows 10 PC.

    In the meantime, I suggest that we turn off the hardware acceleration on the said browser to isolate the issue. Here's how:

    1. Open Google Chrome.
    2. Click the icon with the three dots at the top-right of the window. It says Customize and control Google Chrome when you hover over it.
    3. Click the Settings option near the bottom of the menu.
    4. Scroll to the bottom of this page and click the Advanced.
    5. Scroll to the bottom of the page again, then click the lever to the left of U se hardware acceleration when available to disable it.
    6. Close the browser and then restart it for the changes to take effect.

    We will wait for your response regarding this matter.

    Hi, 

    I have recently been getting this problem with all browsers that i have tested. Tried both solutions above (disabling accelerator and kill dwm.exe) but it did not fix issue. 

    Summary of my issue:

    Chrome my main browser when made maximized screen has a blank bar that covers the tabs, address bar, and bookmarks (sometimes black, sometimes white). 

    This area is un-clickable for for all menu items (tabs, address bar, bookmarks). 

    I use 2 monitors and seems to only effect the main one as no issue on other screen. 

    Using task bar at bottom i have been able to restore browser windows back to windowed view where there is no issue. 

    After initial occurrence I have tested different programs to see what else has issue:

    IE, Firefox developer edition, postman and atom also shows issue.

    Office programs are fine with no issues. 

    This has occurred multiple times now and seems that only way to resolve is to restart the computer. 

    Anyone have an idea on how to fix without restarting computer?

    In my case killing "dwm.exe" with task manager helps sometimes.

    So i dont have to reboot. But that did not help always, so the only real solution currently is a reboot.

    C'mon Microsoft thats a major bug!!!!!!!!

    Anybody of you running Windows 1809 update?

    I have the hope that this fixes the issue.
