Today Microsoft released six updates, but I was only able to get five to successfully install. The sixth update -- KB4340558 -- continually fails with error code 80092004. The full name of the update is: Security and Quality Rollup updates for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, and 4.7.1 for Windows 8.1, RT 8.1, and Server 2012 R2 (KB 4340558) In an attempt to correct this error, I have: Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter Run"dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth" Stopped and restarted services pertaining to Wnidows Update -- wuauserv, bits, cryptsvc But none of these steps resolved the problem. This particular update downloads, but simply fails to install. I did a clean reinstall a couple of months ago, so I do not think my system is at fault here. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem with this update?

Follow these steps. It worked for me Workaround 2 Uninstall the June 2018 Preview of Quality Rollup updates KB 4291497 or KB 4291495, run the DISM cleanup tool, and then reinstall the July 2018 Security and Quality Rollup updates KB 4340557 or KB 4340558, as appropriate. To do this, follow these steps: Navigate to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Installed Updates . Locate the line item for either KB4229726 or KB4229727 , as appropriate. Right-click the row item, and then click Uninstall . Restart the computer as requested. At an administrative command prompt, run the following command: DISM.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup Rescan on Windows Update for updates, and then install the July 2018 .NET Framework Security and Quality Rollup update KB 4340557 or KB 4340558, as applicable.

Thank you Otto, however, I will wait. Not that I don't trust your info but I don't trust myself.. lol There are too many stories around this update and it seems that Microsoft is not living up to their support standards. I'm hoping there will be a future update to fix this. Thank you! Joe

Follow these steps. It worked for me

Workaround 2

Uninstall the June 2018 Preview of Quality Rollup updates KB 4291497 or KB 4291495, run the DISM cleanup tool, and then reinstall the July 2018 Security and Quality Rollup updates KB 4340557 or KB 4340558, as appropriate. To do this, follow these steps:

4. Restart the computer as requested.
