Windows 8.1 Update KB4340558 Fails with Error Code 80092004

Today Microsoft released six updates, but I was only able to get five to successfully install. The sixth update -- KB4340558 -- continually fails with error code 80092004.

The full name of the update is:

Security and Quality Rollup updates for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, and 4.7.1 for Windows 8.1, RT 8.1, and Server 2012 R2 (KB 4340558)

In an attempt to correct this error, I have:

  1. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter
  2. Run"dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth"
  3. Stopped and restarted services pertaining to Wnidows Update -- wuauserv, bits, cryptsvc

But none of these steps resolved the problem.  This particular update downloads, but simply fails to install.

I did a clean reinstall a couple of months ago, so I do not think my system is at fault here.

Is anyone else experiencing the same problem with this update?

    Same issue here with Server 2012 r2.  Both KB4340558 (quality roll up) and KB4054566 (.net 4.7.2) fail with error 80092004. Tried multiple times, after windows update troubleshooter abd DISM/SFC combo. No luck. Hiding for now. Definitely sounds like plenty of people are having this issue.

    Thanks for that, i had tried all the usual fixes to no avail either, will wait for an updated patch.

    Hi there, i would just wait till a new patch is released as it seems to be broken, if you have not deployed it to all devices i would just leave it for a few weeks, i only have it deployed to my test servers currently.

    The package itself seems to be broken internally - a hash value seems to be missing (or wrong) for a component - probably not on all machines. I've several confirmation worldwide. See also my blog post with further details:

    All attempts to manual install or use sfc / dism will fail. The best I can recommend: Hide this update and wait, untill MS offers a revised version or a fix.

    Thanks Niall... your dealing here with a complete...well not exactly novice...but not a whizz kid on these matters.

    So whats the best option... just keep trying... surely at some stage someone will come up with the solution for we that find it challenging.
