Can't preview jpg files in the preview pane -- Windows 10 Fall Update (1709)

I have this issue and it started with the Windows 10 Fall update (1709).  jpg files are not displayed in the preview pane but other files are displayed (pdf, docx, xlxs, etc.).  I've tried setting the default jpg program to several different programs to no avail.  Prior to the 1709 update, jpg files were displayed in the File Explorer preview pane.  It seems to be an issue with the 1709 update.

    I just have to give you a BIG THANK YOU!  I am a designer - upgraded to a new laptop and the latest versions of everything.  Reinstalled my Sage Thumbs so I could see .psd, .ai, etc images on my thumbnails and everything was fine until I realized my preview pane images were small.  Not the size of the pane.  And even smaller than the LARGE Icons! 

    HOURS, registry edits, uninstalls, reinstalls and countless googles and nothing was fixing it.  Then I saw your post.  I didn't believe it would make a difference - but this was the magic fix!!  Who would have thought that this had anything to do with the preview pane!    Regardless - I thank you a million times over!

    There is an easy solution for this. Copy (not cut) the images without preview and paste them back in the same folder. Now you will get the preview and can delete the originals.

    Thanks for that, this is the first solution I have found that actually works.

    Now for copying and pasting 100GB worth of photos since digital cameras came out. I found the easiest way was by folder - e.g., if I have a folder called Jan2010 just create another called Jan2010-copy. Copy all the photos into the new folder, delete the original and then rename the folder back to what it was.

    Edit - I have been trying to fix this for over 12 months with all sorts of complicated methods and nothing ever worked. I can confirm all the photos on my PC are now fixed (in about 20 mins). Found out you can simply copy the top folder, including all subfolders into a temp folder, deleting the original and then renaming the temp folder back to the original name, every picture, in all sub folders, now shows a thumbnail and works in the preview pane.

    Yes this is the only recommendation which has fixed this issue - why won't Microsoft fix the problem? The issue has been around for two years!
