Can't preview jpg files in the preview pane -- Windows 10 Fall Update (1709)

Copying the old files and pasting did the trick. I literally canopied the whole folder, created a new folder and pasted. Delete the old. Works like a charm.

I'm still living this nightmare since the last Windows update!!  This is unbearable, as I am a graphic designer and 95% of my work involves images . . . images that have nondescript names . . . images that I now have to open to even see IF it's the file I'm looking for.  Something that used to take seconds now can take 15 minutes or more.  That is when I don't become disgusted and just quit the project or take a 2-hour detour into the internet realm to try to find a fix for this problem. 

Why is Microsoft not responding or issuing a fix for this?

HELP!! ANYBODY!! PLEASE!! IS ANYBODY OUT THERE WHO KNOWS HOW TO FIX THIS??!!!!

And the usual things have all been checked and/or done to no avail.

• The "always show icons . . . " button is unchecked

• I have run the Disk Cleanup with "Thumbnails" only checked (several times)

Why do MS Moderators even bother to post in these threads if you have absolutely no idea of how to fix the problem??? It's always the same ol' generic blurb and all it serves to do is make very frustrated and desperate people extremely frustrated people who hate MS.

Please stop with the generic blurbs and look for REAL answers and/or fixes. This would MAYBE restore some faith and confidence in our relationships with MS.  Right now, MS just looks like a greedy corporation who pushes sloppy updates onto its users and couldn't care less about helping them to fix it.

SHAME ON YOU MICROSOFT!  YOU MUST DO BETTER.  THE PEOPLE ON THESE THREADS ARE WHY YOU ARE THE CORPORATION YOU ARE, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.  MY PC COULD JUST AS EASILY BE MY MAC!

I went to my control panel.

then I opened "system" and chose "advanced system settings" on the left hand side

I then clicked on the "advanced" tab and then under "performance" I clicked on "settings"

The video I watched said to make sure that the "show thumbnails instead of icons" block was ticked.

That didn't help me since my little block was already ticked.  (I was also a little ticked off at that stage...)

I then saw that there were four options starting with  "Let windows choose....."  and then "custom".

Mine was ticked as "let windows choose".  I thought I didn't trust Windows anymore and elected to take all its choices away.

So I changed the option to "Custom".

However, since I didn't have the slighest idea on which options to choose, I just left all the same boxes ticked (including the 'show thumbnails instead of icons"

Since I didn't make any changes, the page wouldn't allow me to save or apply my changes.  So I unticked one of the boxes and ticked it again.  I could then apply my changes.

I went back to my windows explorer.  Closed it.  Opened it.

Voila!  My preview was back.

I don't know if this is a real fix.

This seems to be the solution for me.

I have the same problem.  I am a photographer so it slows me down.
