BSOD on OneNote 2016 after Upgrade to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709

I have this problem (BSOD in win32kbase.sys) on different computers (dell optiplex 760 & 780, optiplex 7020, hp elitedesk 800 g2, home built on MSI mainboard with core i7 3rd generation, (some with NVIDIA NVS, some integrated graphics, different software), a Surface Book (!) from 2016 ) after upgrading to Windows 10 1709 on OneNote 2016 (coming with the Office 2016 package), but only for this combination of OneNote and Windows.

We use CurrentBranch for Business Enterprise and regular Professional version.

Common is to all the cases that a more complex OneNote slide crashes faster (within seconds):

we have tables (6x20) filled with screen-captured images (~1500pixels x 1000pixels) + some text, when zooming (control + mouswheel) in these files, BSOD occurs immediately.

No special additional hardware, update level on 2017-11-15 (just received KB4048951 and others, problem persits).

On request, I could share the OneNote file.

The exactly same OneNote file makes no problems on Win 10 1703/Win7/Win 8.1, or on a Win 10 1709 running OneNote from Office 2010/2013 packages.

Dear Michelle Her, Dear Microsoft Support,...

so far the only comments on the problems were like "Did you try [any standard troubleshooting procedure] already?"

Unfortunately, so far the only "solution" to avoid these problems is not to use Windows 10 1709 + OneNote 2016/2013.. which is not an option for us.

how about the posted minidumps and other reports?

Did someone from Microsoft look into this problem within the last ~2 weeks?

I posted minidumps and an example OneNoteFile already 10 days ago, on Nov. 16th - after that there were no more replies..

I and other users experienced the BSOD on very different system configurations, so I think it's clear, one can exclude other software or hardware causing the problem -

this is an issue with this combination of OneNote from Office 2016/2013 and Windows 20 1709.

    Hi Mabel,

Have you tried all the possible troubleshooting steps you can find on this thread?

If you're still getting the same blue screen error, you may check this link for steps in troubleshooting blue screen errors.

We'll be waiting for your response.

I am having the exact same issue. I just updated to fall creator update and now every single time I open onenote, i get BSOD showing win32kbase.sys error.

I have updated Office and all of my drivers.

    I am running win10 x64 and office professional plus 2016 x32 (build 8625.2132)

Also having this exact issue.  Thank you for the detailed writeup.

Both my computers running 1709.  As soon as I updated on my laptop it began to have this issue.  I stupidly deleted the update files and can no longer roll back.

Onenote 2016 (365) causes BSOD most of the time upon opening or when switching pages.  My onenote pages are heavy with pictures.
