After installation of KB4056892 boot failure, after roll-back error 0x800f0845

Hi,

I have older AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Asus MB, after installation of KB4056892 the system doesn't boot, it only shows the Windows logo without animation and nothing more. After several failed boots it do roll-back then it shows error 0x800f0845. Unfortunately, it seems it's not easy to disable the automatic updates without gpedit tweaks, so it tries installing and rolling-back the update over and over. The sfc /scannow shows no problem, in-place upgrade also doesn't seem to help. I can try full reinstall, but I doubt it will change anything. It seems like the update is binary incompatible with my old CPU. I understand that making the machine unbootable is the best protection from remote exploitation, but I would rather have the OS working. Especially if my CPU is not vulnerable to the Meltdown attack and the MS mitigation attempts for Spectre is more than questionable. I could find only some German and Italian people reporting the same issue (well the CPU is quite pre-historic and the KB update is very fresh), but no info / acknowledgment from the MS so far. I have Czech localization. Could anybody provide more information?

Success! It's a wonderful thing!
- Downloaded and installed KB4073291.
- System Rebooted with no problem. Twice to be sure.
- Set network adapters to Un-metered.
- Checked for updates and received Defender update.
- Two additional checks for updates show no updates required.
- KB4056892 still shows as failed in update history.
- Show/Hide tool shows no updates blocked. KB4056892 was blocked and now it's gone.
- Looking with Show/Hide there is no mention of KB4056892.

It appears that KB4073291 cleans up any "bookkeeping" mess for updates. I appears this battle is won.

Thanks for clearing that up. The documentation for KB4073291 was not all that clear.

Update on my progress for AMD Athlon 64 x 2........SUCCESS!

After downloading KB4073290 from the Microsoft Update Catalog website and running the downloaded file to install it using the Windows Standalone Installer, my AMD system updated and re-booted to build 16299.194. I ran wushowhide.diagcab and saw that KB4056892 had been removed from hidden updates.

The update KB4073290 worked fine and my AMD Athlon 64 x 2 system is back to normal.

Hope this info might help someone else.

you will need to use a Windows 10 installation in DVD o USB Pendrive to repair Windows from there using the raparation tools.

I also have older AMD system (CPU AMD Athlon 64 x2 5200+) running windows 10 that is unbootable (It gets stuck on the the windows logo and will not boot). My question is since I don't have any restore points to roll back to, how can I install this new update (2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x86-based Systems (KB4073291) Manually if i can't boot into windows?
