After installation of KB4056892 boot failure, after roll-back error 0x800f0845

Hi,

I have older AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Asus MB, after installation of KB4056892 the system doesn't boot, it only shows the Windows logo without animation and nothing more. After several failed boots it do roll-back then it shows error 0x800f0845. Unfortunately, it seems it's not easy to disable the automatic updates without gpedit tweaks, so it tries installing and rolling-back the update over and over. The sfc /scannow shows no problem, in-place upgrade also doesn't seem to help. I can try full reinstall, but I doubt it will change anything. It seems like the update is binary incompatible with my old CPU. I understand that making the machine unbootable is the best protection from remote exploitation, but I would rather have the OS working. Especially if my CPU is not vulnerable to the Meltdown attack and the MS mitigation attempts for Spectre is more than questionable. I could find only some German and Italian people reporting the same issue (well the CPU is quite pre-historic and the KB update is very fresh), but no info / acknowledgment from the MS so far. I have Czech localization. Could anybody provide more information?

    Yesterday I made the mistake of allowing Microsoft January 2018 update. It bricked my system and will not permit re-imaging my drive by any option. 

    After many hours attempting various proceedures to recover my system. I was forced to reinstall Windiws 10 Pro 64 bit. 

    Once running I lost my multiboot option andcwas left with only Windiws 7 and Windows 10 Pro. Again I applied all updates to Windows 10. Everything was fine. Then Windows update showed cricial updates. There were a handfull. After they installed the dystem was bricked again.

    Googling I came across this post. The computer I’m using has an AMD Athlon 64 X2 CPU.

    None of Microsofts recovery options will resolve this problem. 

    My boot was for Win XP Pro, Win 7 Pro and Win 10 Pro ALL 64 Bit. System has been perfect until January 2018 Update. This is costing me time and money, and my time is valuable. 

    Microsoft, I need a manual solution to re-image my ssd from my windowsbackupimage to return my system to its prior state.???????

    I encounter the same problem, if it does not boot it, manually reset the windows 10 system!

    After three restarts, windows 10 tries to fix the problem and will delete that update. After that, windows will burn normally and you will have access to interface!

    You will go in control panel, administrator tools, service, and look for Windows updates here, right click on it and disable !

    We wait for windows to come up with a solution!!!

    Good news for me at least. I recovered the system from a previously backed up image for my BU System which has an old AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ 2.30 GHz. As it is the Pro version, I set it to manual update for download and install in Group Policy.

    As of today, the offending cumulative update KB4056892 does not appear, the last being the December one. Carried out the update with no problems and the licence is now activated again.

    Thanks everyone for help along the way and fingers crossed things finally get sorted out.

    That AMD X2 device still receives Windows Updates (except for the hidden KB4056892).  And has not gone unbootable, since (using the Hide/Show troubleshooter and DISM to remove the offensive package on the device).

    Same here. Athlon X2 L310. Hide/Show brought up KB4056892 and was able to hide. (It brought up some really old [2006!] printer updates of some printers long gone...] DISM didn't work as it complained about active windows installation. Checked in setting the windows update and pending was gone, but some other updates (flash, office, etc.) had been done - so KB4056892 won't be bothering until under another name. It just goes to show that hype of a fix is worth more to Microsoft than actual testing of the fix.

    Use the Online option in Bold, to run dism from within Windows.
