After installation of KB4056892 boot failure, after roll-back error 0x800f0845

Hi,

I have older AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Asus MB, after installation of KB4056892 the system doesn't boot, it only shows the Windows logo without animation and nothing more. After several failed boots it do roll-back then it shows error 0x800f0845. Unfortunately, it seems it's not easy to disable the automatic updates without gpedit tweaks, so it tries installing and rolling-back the update over and over. The sfc /scannow shows no problem, in-place upgrade also doesn't seem to help. I can try full reinstall, but I doubt it will change anything. It seems like the update is binary incompatible with my old CPU. I understand that making the machine unbootable is the best protection from remote exploitation, but I would rather have the OS working. Especially if my CPU is not vulnerable to the Meltdown attack and the MS mitigation attempts for Spectre is more than questionable. I could find only some German and Italian people reporting the same issue (well the CPU is quite pre-historic and the KB update is very fresh), but no info / acknowledgment from the MS so far. I have Czech localization. Could anybody provide more information?

    There's no need to start searching for updates, the Hide/show troubleshooter de facto do a search for updates itself.

    KB4056892

    does not work on AMD Systems. That is understood. At least, not on all of them. Some have claimed success with the install of this update, Most say it has caused them endless headaches and everybody seems to think this is Microsoft's fault. It isn't. AMD caused its customers the same problems back in 2008 when we were all trying to download and install Service Pack 3 for Windows XP.

    The simple fact is: AMD provides terrible Customer Support and always has.

    Or the fun people had in 2000 when AMD  caused a System Shutdown when its k6-2 trued to run at over 350 Mhz.

    The important thing to remember here is that ARM and HP (among others) keep their drivers up to date as the technology moves forward.

    Well that is a load of bull.  Yes there is an issue and Microsoft knew this. However MS released a fix that disabled their own system and you say it is someone else that is to blame.  You are saying in fact that it is up to hardware manufacturers to know ahead of time what MS is going to do and they are responsible to fix it before MS wrecks their own OS. Guess they could if they went back in time. I say you must be a MS employee to even dare try to tell us that and it is am obvious attempt to shift the blame for screwing up all our systems. Keep it up and maybe we all switch to Apple.

    On some machines that reset, Hide/show troubleshooter would not find the update till it was pending, which surprised me as some machines reset the 2nd time on the 10th

    The point is that they DO know ahead of time. Intel and ARM were ready and AMD could have been also but they were dragging their feet claiming the issue didn't affect them.

    Those are the facts...sorry you don't like them.

    On one of the AMD Machines, that reset for the 2nd time late last nite (after an auto reset from a previous days lock up), the machine had the Hide/show troubleshooter installed and set to hide (verified), i had forgotten to uninstall the update after running the troubleshooter, after the first resetting, i assumed.  the update did not show up in programs and features, after the 2nd reset, but still shows as able to be unhidden...  That AMD device will be watched today.....  As it caused a cold dinner, and an unwanted discussion....
