After installation of KB4056892 boot failure, after roll-back error 0x800f0845

Hi,

I have older AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Asus MB, after installation of KB4056892 the system doesn't boot, it only shows the Windows logo without animation and nothing more. After several failed boots it do roll-back then it shows error 0x800f0845. Unfortunately, it seems it's not easy to disable the automatic updates without gpedit tweaks, so it tries installing and rolling-back the update over and over. The sfc /scannow shows no problem, in-place upgrade also doesn't seem to help. I can try full reinstall, but I doubt it will change anything. It seems like the update is binary incompatible with my old CPU. I understand that making the machine unbootable is the best protection from remote exploitation, but I would rather have the OS working. Especially if my CPU is not vulnerable to the Meltdown attack and the MS mitigation attempts for Spectre is more than questionable. I could find only some German and Italian people reporting the same issue (well the CPU is quite pre-historic and the KB update is very fresh), but no info / acknowledgment from the MS so far. I have Czech localization. Could anybody provide more information?

Having the same issue, with a freeze at Windows logo screen and update rollbacks loop after installation of Meltdown/Spectre patch, on Windows 10 x64 Pro Build (1709 16299.125) with an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC DV2-2116WM with AMD Turion 64 X2.

I had virtualization disabled in BIOS so I may try the update once again after reviewing this community question again thoroughly.

I'm only running Windows Defender with Cybereason RansomFree and Windows Insiders builds with just fixes, apps, and drivers. I have the same setup on a newer Intel I3 based unit with no issues.

After reviewing this thread I paused updates for 7 days in Advanced Options while researching further options.

Glad to find this community question/forum and to know that other IT/Users are having similar issues.

Same issue with an AMD Turion x2 dual-core mobile rm-72 and Win 10 Pro 64 bits. I´m also only using windows defender.

off topic.

why so many users have athlon and me the only with turion?

But unfortunately, even though I successfully "hid" the 2018 Cumulative Update KB4056892", and it showed up in the hide/show tool as being hidden, Windows Update just charged ahead anyhow and began downloading, got to 100% download, and then began installing this update on my system until I quickly disabled windows update service again.

Tested now on a Windows 10 Home Fall Creators Update:

while the KB4056892 was downloading in Windows Update, I managed with the Hide/Show troubleshooter to hide the update, then restarted the pc.

Now the KB4056892 is not installed and is ignored by Windows Update!

Same problem here. Whenever I tried to install through Windows Update it stalls at 99%. So I downloaded the manual installation and when it tries to boot up, only Windows logo and no processor activity (light doesn't flicker or come on at all). I think I did get it to istall through Windows Update once or twice and it tried installing after re-boot but got stuck for an hour or so then automatically re-booted without the update. Same thing with newly updated manual update. I tried hiding updates but for some reason now the Update and Security panel won't load, it freezes the settings window and I have to close it. Luckily when it shuts down it doesn't try to install, only when restarted (from what I've noticed). It hasn't tried to install so far when starting up so maybe it will stay that way until an update that works is posted by MS. Older HP Pavillion with AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core 4200+ Windows 10 Pro Ver. 1709 OS Build 16299.15

while the KB4056892 was downloading in Windows Update, I managed with the Hide/Show troubleshooter to hide the update, then restarted the pc.

Now the KB4056892 is not installed and is ignored by Windows Update!

I was finally successful in hiding/blocking KB4056892 using Hide/Show Troubleshooter. The key, as you pointed out, seems to have been restarting the PC after hiding it. I have Windows Update Service enabled again and (so far) it hasn’t tried to sneak it back onboard!
