Hi,
I have older AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Asus MB, after installation of KB4056892 the system doesn't boot, it only shows the Windows logo without animation and nothing more. After several failed boots it do roll-back then it shows error 0x800f0845. Unfortunately, it seems it's not easy to disable the automatic updates without gpedit tweaks, so it tries installing and rolling-back the update over and over. The sfc /scannow shows no problem, in-place upgrade also doesn't seem to help. I can try full reinstall, but I doubt it will change anything. It seems like the update is binary incompatible with my old CPU. I understand that making the machine unbootable is the best protection from remote exploitation, but I would rather have the OS working. Especially if my CPU is not vulnerable to the Meltdown attack and the MS mitigation attempts for Spectre is more than questionable. I could find only some German and Italian people reporting the same issue (well the CPU is quite pre-historic and the KB update is very fresh), but no info / acknowledgment from the MS so far. I have Czech localization. Could anybody provide more information?

2018-01-24T00:03:56+00:00 Success! I installed the KB4073290 update and restarted with no problem. Started up Show/Hide app and KB4056892 was nowhere to be seen. Even Windows update found nothing and said I'm up to date. Although after I restarted Windows update said there was a failed update but still found no more updates. So far so good.

2018-01-23T14:34:37+00:00 I am happy for anyone who had this lock up issue and managed to get the KB to work. If not, rather than throw out the older machine, try Linux Mint. Easy and free, looks and acts much like Windows. And you will be stunned by how much more responsive the machine will be (so much so I also put it on another older laptop which was not locking up). And you can install it side by side and access your old files or go back to Windows if you want.

2018-01-23T14:02:52+00:00 Thanks Blubi it did work, it took a couple of times to get it to run. it does boot back into windows with one minor problem.
It still hangs on the windows logo screen when i first turn the computer on, but after pushing the reboot button on the computer it will then restart into windows. Some one did say it might be some bios setting i have to turn off in my bios. Its no big deal at least my computer is running again.
