After installation of KB4056892 boot failure, after roll-back error 0x800f0845

Hi,

I have older AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Asus MB, after installation of KB4056892 the system doesn't boot, it only shows the Windows logo without animation and nothing more. After several failed boots it do roll-back then it shows error 0x800f0845. Unfortunately, it seems it's not easy to disable the automatic updates without gpedit tweaks, so it tries installing and rolling-back the update over and over. The sfc /scannow shows no problem, in-place upgrade also doesn't seem to help. I can try full reinstall, but I doubt it will change anything. It seems like the update is binary incompatible with my old CPU. I understand that making the machine unbootable is the best protection from remote exploitation, but I would rather have the OS working. Especially if my CPU is not vulnerable to the Meltdown attack and the MS mitigation attempts for Spectre is more than questionable. I could find only some German and Italian people reporting the same issue (well the CPU is quite pre-historic and the KB update is very fresh), but no info / acknowledgment from the MS so far. I have Czech localization. Could anybody provide more information?

    Does KB4073290 actually  replace KB4056892 ,

    Looking at this https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4073290/unbootable-state-for-amd-devices-in-windows-10-version-1709 it states this.

    "Update replacement information

    This update does not replace a previously released update."

     I have KB4056892 hidden so it would not try install again.

    The MS Update Catalogue actually says 4073290 replaces November's update! Whatever, it does effectively replace 4056892 (or possibly embody it) and you shouldn't see it again once 3290 is installed. Link to the standalone update is:

    in case you haven't got it. It's huge - 600MB - so seems almost to be a reload rather than an update.

    If you look through the last several pages, a lot of people have now satisfactorily installed 4073290 (for 64-bit systems only) but only when we all get to February's updates will we know for sure whether we're back to stability.

    The system works fine now but i keep windows update messages in the settings menu that my system is not safe and i have to resume searching for updates.

    It won't download any other updates till now.

    I followed much the same processes as you and had much the same outcomes but my computer is now fine, albeit a bit slower? As you've stopped KB4056892 with wushowhide it should be OK to download and install KB4073290. That will definitively replace 6892 and the annoying unsafe system messages should stop. Download the update and install as a standalone. But see my posts downpage on pp35 and 36: it wasn't as straightforward for me as it seems to have been for most but I do have an exceedingly old Turion. With your system you'll hopefully sail through!

    Still the same problem.

    So the changes in the Bios did not make the difference!

    After windows 10update automaticly installed update KB4056892. Windows keeps stuck on starting up logo. no way to reverse the update.

    I made a clean Windows 10 install and then downloaded and installed the "Show of hide updates" troubleshooter package.

    Download the "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter package now.

    And turned off the KB4056892 update, that was already started to download.

    The system works fine now but i keep windows update messages in the settings menu that my system is not safe and i have to resume searching for updates.

    My system: (Targa) AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (Brisbane 2,51 Ghz)

    Chipset/Bios Nvidia Nforce 550/phoenix

    I hope Microsoft will find an awnser for this problem soon! So this could be solved.

    @KarlAllitt

    Windows is resumed just as it was before the KB4056892, no clean install is done.

    Do a partition backup first and give it a try.
