After installation of KB4056892 boot failure, after roll-back error 0x800f0845

Hi,

I have older AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Asus MB, after installation of KB4056892 the system doesn't boot, it only shows the Windows logo without animation and nothing more. After several failed boots it do roll-back then it shows error 0x800f0845. Unfortunately, it seems it's not easy to disable the automatic updates without gpedit tweaks, so it tries installing and rolling-back the update over and over. The sfc /scannow shows no problem, in-place upgrade also doesn't seem to help. I can try full reinstall, but I doubt it will change anything. It seems like the update is binary incompatible with my old CPU. I understand that making the machine unbootable is the best protection from remote exploitation, but I would rather have the OS working. Especially if my CPU is not vulnerable to the Meltdown attack and the MS mitigation attempts for Spectre is more than questionable. I could find only some German and Italian people reporting the same issue (well the CPU is quite pre-historic and the KB update is very fresh), but no info / acknowledgment from the MS so far. I have Czech localization. Could anybody provide more information?

    My Athlon 64 X2 6000+ on GeForce6100SM-M motherboard (Windows 10) was rendered useless by Microsoft's emergency update.  I then attempted Windows Recovery mode which wasted hours and hours of my time and ended up simply repeated the problem. 

    I ask Microsoft to make a very clear and public announcement when they again support older Athlon CPUs.  In the meantime my other machine, AMD Athlon 64 X2  laptop running fully updated Linux, runs just perfectly.

    Thank you.  You gave me a thought as to how I could prevent my two remaining non KB4056892 enhanced AMD fx-nnnn from joining the fun.  In addition to getting some work done and setting up the older X2 6000+ machine for the next go around.

    My CenturyLink C1000Z  (ZyXEL 1000Z) will allow you to disable internet access from the status screen when logged in as administrator.  Other devices may have similar ability.

    Its internet light goes out but it will still provide IP addresses and all the other good things a router does.

    For those caught in the "Update, Bricked, Recovery"  loop, attempting the ShowHide "timing is critical" gambit  this will at least allow them to control the start of the next cycle.

    After you have set up for the next go around, just re enable internet access.

    And as always a word of caution.

    After the modem/gateway disconnect from the internet, Windows looses interested  in it and it will no longer show up in Explorer --> Network.  To easily get back to its webpage, have some utility around like Advanced IP Scanner.

    And thanks again.  That was a good thought about metered connection.  It was a matter of how to get there first.

    **Maybe solution for HIDING This Update AND STOPPING THE DOWNLOAD of KB4056892.**Update has been an issue since Sunday for me. 5 Restores to this Windows 10 HOME PC so far. (On Home version - No Delay to Download allowed= only on PRO version). Microsoft's announcement of "not allowing the update to download on AMD PCs" proven to be NOT happening yesterday 2 times & again just now (noonish on Wednesday). Tried to use WUSHOWHIDE.DIAGCAB KB3073930 multiple times under different circumstances and never would show this KB4056892 or any other updates. IF this is a problem for you still as it was for me - Found solution to that issue today. Restored PC. KB Download stalled because of McAfee, Windows now disables 3rd party VP? Shut Wi-Fi off, TOOK McAfee off. Restarted computer. TIMING is KEY: With McAfee out of the way - Download started again and Started to "Install"-SHUT DOWN PC NOW(at INSTALL - hard off - power button push). TRUE - Not what you are supposed to do with a Windows Update. Had WUSHOWHIDE.Diagcab on flash drive. Restarted PC. Wi-Fi off. Ran WUSHOWHIDE off of flashdrive. 3rd time finally brought up all upgrades. Checked box to hide this bad Update. Soft Restart Now. After Restart - Update still downloading (not installing just downloading). SOFT Restart NOW. Ran WUSHOWHIDE again and found offending Update-checked box AGAIN and soft restart. Going to Settings - Windows Update -Update Check showed the Update as indeed Hidden as W10 no longer trying to download it/install. Hope this works for you. Since MS doesn't want to play nice with McAfee - using Window Defender as Virus Protection for now. Hurry Hurry MS, over 27,000 of us right now trying to get our AMD PC's usable and SAFE again.

    "Home does not have option..." See the link above to give it the option....   

    Not the least bit happy with the situation.  See too many Small Businesses with old AMD processors being put temporarily out of business or have to buy new computers (wt*);  not all machines are giving the ability to roll back, and a Win10 Reset (Keeping Data) (after 3 power off/on sequences) is the only way (on some PCs) to bring it alive enough to see what was there....
