After installation of KB4056892 boot failure, after roll-back error 0x800f0845

Hi,

I have older AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Asus MB, after installation of KB4056892 the system doesn't boot, it only shows the Windows logo without animation and nothing more. After several failed boots it do roll-back then it shows error 0x800f0845. Unfortunately, it seems it's not easy to disable the automatic updates without gpedit tweaks, so it tries installing and rolling-back the update over and over. The sfc /scannow shows no problem, in-place upgrade also doesn't seem to help. I can try full reinstall, but I doubt it will change anything. It seems like the update is binary incompatible with my old CPU. I understand that making the machine unbootable is the best protection from remote exploitation, but I would rather have the OS working. Especially if my CPU is not vulnerable to the Meltdown attack and the MS mitigation attempts for Spectre is more than questionable. I could find only some German and Italian people reporting the same issue (well the CPU is quite pre-historic and the KB update is very fresh), but no info / acknowledgment from the MS so far. I have Czech localization. Could anybody provide more information?

    I've got an Athlon 64 x2 6000+, same as you, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, and Kaspersky Total Security v18 (Kaspersky rolled out their patched code in mid-December 2017). I have auto-restart turned off, so I got a BSOD upon reboot. System Event log shows 0x800f0816 for the failed patch error code. Booted into recovery mode using F8, ran System Restore back to point set by update, then it booted just fine. Went into Windows Updates and hid the KB4056894 update and it's working OK (for now).

    We will hopefully see M$ release a less-hostile patch for AMD computers soon; I don't like skipping patches while the hackers reverse-engineer them.

    I gave a longer reply to someone else. I have "solved" the problem by pausing updates. Waiting for Microsoft fix.

    BTW, I am using Microsoft Defender for now, which addresses the security issue. I will go back to Kaspersky when I get a chance to turn off the license on my old computer.

    Essentially same as everyone else: Update partially installs, usually pauses at 2% or 8%, screen goes black with no apparent CPU or disk activity although "power on" light is lit, on/off front panel button has no affect, must use back-plane power rocker switch to turn off, turn back on, a little activity with blank screen, must use power rocker switch in back again, this time it starts and backs out of update and eventually I am back in business, except that faulty update is still downloaded and ready to install, which it does again in the middle of the night and I repeat process next day. So now I have postponed all updates and am waiting for Microsoft to fix this. Fortunately, with the new CPU and solid-state C drive this all cycles much faster than my old computer, but it is still annoying obviously. I leave my computer on overnight to record certain TV shows, which I now miss when the update/restart happens.

    Adding my bricked Pavilion machine with AMD Turion X2 processor to the list. Was able to get it backup restored and running again but have had to disable WU service to ensure the problem doesn't come back. Might try the show/hide fix later but would like to see a true fix as soon as one can be found.
