Have checked there are no active wake timers Turned off wake via Ethernet and all drivers/BIOS seem up to date. Any suggestion as to why this is happening and is this a known bug requiring a patch? Also via powercfg no application are preventing sleep

I too had a similar issue. I'm posting because this thread is one of the top results Google gives for Windows 10 sleep problems.

The solution that worked for two computers I had that were not sleeping was as follows:

  • Run an admin command prompt
  • powercfg -requests
    • This command lists all processes or services currently running that are preventing the computer from sleeping. The list is helpfully broken down by categories. One of my affected computers had sleep blocked by the IncrediBuild component of Visual Studio, the other by a different TSR program.

Hello , I have resolved this problem like this :

In control panel / network and internet , network connections right click on Ethernet network adapter , go to properties , click on Configure network adapter , go to power management option and turn off (uncheck) " allow this device to wake the computer"  and turn on (check) "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" .

    Rgds

    Aleksandar

    Thanks

    This one worked for me

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Power Options

Click Change Plan Settings” next to the option that you have selected.

    Click “Change advanced power settings“.

On the “Power Options” screen, you want to expand each setting and ensure that they allow the computer to go to sleep mode. In my case, the setting under “Multimedia settings” > “When sharing media” was set to “Prevent idling to sleep“. I had to set this to “Allow the computer to sleep“. If you’re feeling lazy, just hit the “Restore plan defaults” button and that should toggle all items to where sleeping is allowed in Windows 10.

My computer could not enter sleep-mode (Windows 7) - it just kept on running with black screen and I had to restart the hard way (power off/on).

I found out, that in my case it was due to the Watch-gadget on deskto. After turning that of it worked fine.

    Crazy? Yes!

    Best regards

    F. Christensen

I had this issue since sometime in the fall, and I just solved it this morning. I had tried almost everything in this help thread and others online, but nothing worked. Two things seemed to solve the issue for me.

    1. Disable allowing Cortana to respond to "Hey Cortana" and disabling Cortana when my device is locked. These options can both be found in Settings -> Cortana -> Talk to Cortana
    2. Under Settings -> Personalization -> Lock Screen, either choose an option that is not "Slideshow" for the Background, or make sure that the option "When my PC is inactive, show lock screen instead of turning off the screen" is set to "Off" in the "Advanced slideshow settings" section. I actually just ended up changing the Background option to Windows Spotlight, so that might also be a solution.

I'm not sure if all of these things together fixed the problem or just one of them, but now that my PC is back to sleeping normally, I'm going to leave everything as it is. With regard to #1, I guess this isn't a great option for Cortana users, but perhaps the Cortana process is part of what is preventing the PC from sleeping?

Hope this helps anyone experiencing this frustrating issue who, like me, exhausted all of the recommended solutions and none of them worked.

    Cheers.

    Its probably not your GPU.

run cmd as admin and use the  command powercfg -lastwake to see what is waking your computer.

It is likely your ethernet socket, That was the case for me

If it is go to the device manager and find that device and dont allow wake.

For me it was something to do with not allowing packets to wake except magic packets.

If its not that then you can still view what is waking.

The problem I think most people (and myself) are having on this thread Is the computer flat out wont go to sleep on its own,

however now it looks like theres lots of different issues than the thread was intended.

I'm still having the wont sleep on its own problem.
