Have checked there are no active wake timers Turned off wake via Ethernet and all drivers/BIOS seem up to date. Any suggestion as to why this is happening and is this a known bug requiring a patch? Also via powercfg no application are preventing sleep

I too had a similar issue. I'm posting because this thread is one of the top results Google gives for Windows 10 sleep problems.

The solution that worked for two computers I had that were not sleeping was as follows:

  • Run an admin command prompt
  • powercfg -requests
    • This command lists all processes or services currently running that are preventing the computer from sleeping. The list is helpfully broken down by categories. One of my affected computers had sleep blocked by the IncrediBuild component of Visual Studio, the other by a different TSR program.

All the previous mentioned options made a difference, like:

1.a. "Multimedia settings" - "Prevent idling to sleep" to "Allow computer to sleep"

       b. "Restore plan defaults"

    1. Uncheck "Turn on fast startup"

However, closing the Plex Server app allowed the sleep function to work again.

Just thought I would mention my sleep issue which started a few weeks ago. That is sleep no longer obeyed the power setting. It appeared to coincide with a windows 10 update.

After trying the above it showed a permanent audio stream was there. This was caused by a microphone I added to the system at about the same time as the update. Disconnected the microphone and hey presto windows now sleeps again.

Thanks for the suggestion and fix.

I will have to buy a microphone that can be switched off.

Thank you for responding. However, the command powercfg-requests did not work. Is this the correct command?

    Thanks

I forgot to run as admin (have not done this before). Will try again. Thanks.
