Error Code: 0x80072f76 0x20017. Windows media creation tool.

I've disabled the defender and other software for malware and virus protection and tried moving the executable to desktop and then launching it. I don't have an idea whats wrong with it! Any help is much appreciated.

I was able to solve it on a 2016 Lenovo laptop by disabling antivirus until next reboot and pointing my DNSs to Google Ones.

Hope this helps someone else as well.

    I tried all the steps here, and at first I couldn't get it working. In the end I had avast stopped and compability mode activated for windows 7. Wasn't enough. But then I changed the dns server to 9.9.9.9 (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 didn't work) using these instructions https://www.windowscentral.com/how-change-your-pcs-dns-settings-windows-10 then it started working.

    Workaround:

    1. Right-click on MediaCreationTool app and select Properties.
    2. Select the Compatibility tab, then check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode:"
    3. Select one old version of Windows, like Windows 8 or Windows 7, in the dropdown box.
    4. Hit Apply, then run the Media Creation Tool.

    Well, my computer (Lenovo x230i) is with the last insider update and it doesn't work... Boring 

    Gladly it worked on the SP3 of my wife so finally I can use the official iso and erase what I found elsewhere.

    It doesn't work for me. Help!

    Me neither. I tried changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and rebooting, and flushing the dns cache, but no luck. I've also tried this on several different machines, and they are giving the same error.

    It looks like lots of other users are experiencing a similar problem as it says "I have the same question (239)" above, but that was just 186 when I check a few hours ago...

    An alternative would be to download the windows 10 iso directly from this link;

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10ISO

    and then create a bootable USB stick using rufus from here;

    https://rufus.akeo.ie/

    (currently in the middle of a 4.4GB download of the iso!!!!! )

    how did you download the iso only? When i go to that link it downloads the media creation tool which doesnt work. Please help
