Windows 10 missing first keystrokes from Microsoft Designer Bluetooth Keyboard after Fall Creators' Update

Using latest version of Edge (7/21/18) and still missing one or two keystrokes on the first entry of an older database application. Not a keyboard issue, tried three. This is a Microsoft Edge issue. Missing keystrokes do not happen with any other browser on my database application. And yes, this has been happening for a while, maybe back to Fall Creators version. I also use FileZilla that now has copy/paste bug that Microsoft introduced with the Spring Creators version. Some things are going backwards rather than getting better. Nice graphics don't make up for things no longer working correctly.

I have two Microsoft Sculpt keyboards and both of them behave the same way on Windows 10.  If I were a betting man, I would put money on some sort of inactivity behavior change in Windows 10.  Microsoft is trying to save power by putting the connection to the keyboard to sleep after x seconds of inactivity.  The first keystroke wakes up the connection. There needs to be a way to stop the connection from going to sleep.

Please update the driver or find a way to shut down this behavior.  This behavior is specific to Windows 10.  No issue in prior OS versions.

I have a sculpt keyboard that behaves the exact same way as well. It is maddening because I do a lot of typing in my job and if I stop to process, or read for a bit then my first keystrokes are always dropped. It is also really bad when searching in browsers. It almost seems worse when using my web browser.

It has to be quite shameful for MS that this thread could be out here for months that represents an incompatibility or issue with a Microsoft product and Microsoft software and there is no posted resolution or workaround. Even in the previous posts the MS people just posted the same useless crap that the troubleshooting would tell you.

I did some more testing on my setup and the problem I described is solved.

I updated to OS Build 16299.309 and the problem did not come back.

I guess “improves” in the OS Build 16299.248 description means that it still fails on some systems.

It may get better in later updates - good luck.

Well as you can see if you read the post completly I run win10 1709 OS version 16299.251 on my PC.

I have already been at 16299.248 and moved on :)

Keyboard problem seems to be resolved on PCs with the February 13, 2018—KB4074588 (OS Build 16299.248) update.  The update has the following quote "Improves and reduces conditions where certain Bluetooth keyboards drop keys during reconnection scenarios."
