Fall Creator update fails to install at 81%

All my windows updates crashes while installing. I have windows 10 version 1607 and was trying to update to the fall creators update. Like previous upgrades, this version crashes the computer while updating and reverts back to the previous version.

Unlike previous crashes, this one made it all the way to 81%.

I have tried all prior options to try to correct this issue with no resolution :(

I was having a similar problem, and after multiple attempts (over 7 times) trying different solutions like disabling virus protection, disabling startup programs, running update database corruption repair, etc. My computer never got past 81% before freezing and not updating.

I stumbled across a forum talking about problems with  Anatel  PCI-E Wlan cards (wi-fi) and old drivers that would hang up their computers and after removing the card (not just disabling) their machines would update and run fine. Since I was running my machine through an Ethernet connection, connected to an access point, I could remove the Anatel card in my computer and still have an internet connection. I tried it, and my computer a Gateway FX6860 updated to Windows 10 Fall Creators version without any problems. 

Check to see if you have an Anatel wifi card and remove it and replace it with something newer or an Ethernet or usb connection to the internet and try the update. this worked for me.

    good for you mate.

    mine is a laptop. (ASUS ROG GL502 series)

    I'm perfectly ok with 1607. but annoyingly Microsoft update assistant pops up and ask me to update. Fails all the time. since it was release. tried all methods except a clean install. didn't work

    So happy I found this thread!

    I followed your helpful information:

    • Uninstalled antivirus
    • Deactived fast boot
    • Temporarily removed wireless network card (indeed Anatel brand)

    .. and now just minutes ago, Fall Creator update finally manged to install after months of failed download-install-restore cycles (with same same behavior: failed reboot / black screen and finally freeze at 81%).

    i have the same problem. been searching for a solution for months. the microsoft team just gave generic response. 

    my specs ASUS ROG GL502 laptop 16gb ram. Samsung 850 EVO M2 SSD as boot drive.

    what should i disable?
