Fall Creator update fails to install at 81%

All my windows updates crashes while installing. I have windows 10 version 1607 and was trying to update to the fall creators update. Like previous upgrades, this version crashes the computer while updating and reverts back to the previous version.

Unlike previous crashes, this one made it all the way to 81%.

I have tried all prior options to try to correct this issue with no resolution :(

I was having a similar problem, and after multiple attempts (over 7 times) trying different solutions like disabling virus protection, disabling startup programs, running update database corruption repair, etc. My computer never got past 81% before freezing and not updating.

I stumbled across a forum talking about problems with  Anatel  PCI-E Wlan cards (wi-fi) and old drivers that would hang up their computers and after removing the card (not just disabling) their machines would update and run fine. Since I was running my machine through an Ethernet connection, connected to an access point, I could remove the Anatel card in my computer and still have an internet connection. I tried it, and my computer a Gateway FX6860 updated to Windows 10 Fall Creators version without any problems. 

Check to see if you have an Anatel wifi card and remove it and replace it with something newer or an Ethernet or usb connection to the internet and try the update. this worked for me.

    Had my windows 1709 upgrade  repeatably failing at 45% (also failing at 75% and 81% if upgrading via ISO disc) and I eventually found through these forums it was caused by the Wi-Fi card plugged into my PC. I unplugged the Wi-Fi card (when PC was powered down) and it upgraded ok on the next upgrade attempt

    My Wi-Fi card on my Zoostorm PC showed Ralink in device manager ((Addon is also shown on the card itself & the model number is NWP200Ev4).

    I can also confirm this was a fix for my situation with the update freezing up at 81% or going to a black screen.

    The backstory was that I've had this frustrating problem for over a day, read your post and done the same method with success. I evidently had that same brand of WiFi card in an Asus tower as it turned out. First I tried to disable the card through Device Manager whilst using a 'direct line' Ethernet source, but still no-go as the update would freeze up at 81% and/or go black screen like it did before, so I removed the WiFi card from the motherboard's port entirely and the update completed itself. Therefore temporarily removing the WiFi card until the update completed was the fix as per your post details.
