Fall Creator update fails to install at 81%

All my windows updates crashes while installing. I have windows 10 version 1607 and was trying to update to the fall creators update. Like previous upgrades, this version crashes the computer while updating and reverts back to the previous version.

Unlike previous crashes, this one made it all the way to 81%.

I have tried all prior options to try to correct this issue with no resolution :(

I was having a similar problem, and after multiple attempts (over 7 times) trying different solutions like disabling virus protection, disabling startup programs, running update database corruption repair, etc. My computer never got past 81% before freezing and not updating.

I stumbled across a forum talking about problems with  Anatel  PCI-E Wlan cards (wi-fi) and old drivers that would hang up their computers and after removing the card (not just disabling) their machines would update and run fine. Since I was running my machine through an Ethernet connection, connected to an access point, I could remove the Anatel card in my computer and still have an internet connection. I tried it, and my computer a Gateway FX6860 updated to Windows 10 Fall Creators version without any problems. 

Check to see if you have an Anatel wifi card and remove it and replace it with something newer or an Ethernet or usb connection to the internet and try the update. this worked for me.

    Hi Andre,

    I've had this same problem for weeks.

    I have a Packard Bell iXtreme M5850 (uk version).

    Actually my old HD was on it's last legs and reinstalled a new system on a fresh HD, everything was going well until I tried to install this update, which I have tried to do half a dozen times or so now, both via going "Check for updates" via Cortana, and going to the Microsoft Update website.

    My computer is connected to a wireless network, rather than a LAN, could that make any difference?

    Or is my computer just incompatible?

    It would be great if the software could check for that kind of thing before it does an update, it would save a lot of frustration.

    Are you able to start Windows normally?

    Have you tried using the Update assitant to update WIndows?

    Go here -> https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

    And then click on "Update Now"

    So, what have you tried? 

    You are quick to judge, but you can't even answer a simple question 'Whats the make and model of your computer?

    You haven't attempted any of the recommendations, yet, you already assuming they don't work. Its standard procedure to ask these routine questions and provide these instructions. And you can't say it doesn't work cause I'm sure you didn't go through 120,000 replies to come to that conclusion.

    What is the make and model of your computer?

    Have you checked the manufacturers website to determine compatibility?

    Check this List to Determine if Your Computer is Compatible with the Windows 10 Creators Update or Anniversary Update or Not

    You should also follow Microsoft's advisory and upgrade only when offered through Windows Update:

    If must upgrade, perform the following tasks:

    12 Things You Should Do Before Installing Windows 10 Creators Update (Version 1703) **** 

    If the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant becomes stuck or unresponsive at various percentages: 0%, 32%, 62%, 87%, 99%, please wait at least 4 to 7 hours. If you are updating through Windows Update, when the download reaches 99% disconnect from the Internet LAN (Ethernet) or Wi-Fi then proceed with the installation.

    If setup does not progress, close the wizard then restart your computer. Follow the instructions to upgrade manually using the Media Creation Tool or the Windows 10 ISO file.
