Fall Creator update fails to install at 81%

While I appreciate that you are a moderator and help out on these forums in your spare time, I'm hoping someone from Microsoft that reads my comments here...

There is a SERIOUS problem with the Windows 10 platform and updater if you are having THIS MANY PROBLEMS.   While I appreciate your thoughtful response, Andre, it's absurd to think someone should have to go through these steps to get the upgrade to work.  The auto updater is crippling many of our systems and rendering them useless or relatively close to that.  That's not normal programing.  That's unreasonable.  And frankly, as a consumer, it's insulting.

I cannot wait to purchase a non-Windows system.  As a consumer, I feel I am being abused by Microsoft and treated unfairly.  I hope there is some branch of the government that can investigate the nature of this problem and sues them accordingly.  I can only imagine the business losses these issues are creating.  It will be a field day for attorneys.

I was having a similar problem, and after multiple attempts (over 7 times) trying different solutions like disabling virus protection, disabling startup programs, running update database corruption repair, etc. My computer never got past 81% before freezing and not updating.

I stumbled across a forum talking about problems with  Anatel  PCI-E Wlan cards (wi-fi) and old drivers that would hang up their computers and after removing the card (not just disabling) their machines would update and run fine. Since I was running my machine through an Ethernet connection, connected to an access point, I could remove the Anatel card in my computer and still have an internet connection. I tried it, and my computer a Gateway FX6860 updated to Windows 10 Fall Creators version without any problems. 

Check to see if you have an Anatel wifi card and remove it and replace it with something newer or an Ethernet or usb connection to the internet and try the update. this worked for me.

More than a year trying to update Windows 10 to 1703 and 1704! Even with a clean install, and nothing works for my Packar Bell ixtreme M5850. I removed the WiFi card and... surprise! It was an Anatel. And finally, it all Works fine. Thanks, thanks a lot.

After researching everything I could find to help resolve this problem and reinstalling the Windows 10 Fall Creators update numerous times, I found your response here. I removed the Anatel WiFi card and the update went smoothly without a hitch. James, thanks your input it this was the last resort before buying a new computer. My computer is a Dell desktop.

It's not that you are connected via ethernet

The wifi card drivers are not compatible, so taking the card out allows it to install
