I cannot restore any system image which was created in Windows 10 v1709 using Backup and Restore.

These responders don't know wtf they're talking about. This is useless. I even posted in MS Community and went live on Q&A last week.

No one from MS bothered to respond. I also sent a PM to one of the engineers and he didn't respond either. They truly don't give a ****.

Shame on MS..., but that's also pointless since they don't care. They're too coward to admit it. It's like this "we can let you backup your image, but not restore it". Which is the same as "you can put gas in the car, but you can't drive it".

Yea, that's right. I'm calling you out.

Btw, your Level 1 sucks and Level 2 ain't that far ahead either.

Same problem here. It would be really great to see some of the responders even pretend that they understand the problem or have taken the time to read the details. Here it is in summary for my case:

Brand new, out of the box Lenovo ThinkCentre

• Applied all updates to bring it up to 1709
• Updated drivers and BIOS
• NO OTHER SOFTWARE INSTALLED
• Created system image on 6 DVDs - no anomalies reported
• Created system repair DVD
• Reconfigured disk controller to mirrored RAID operation
• Booted off repair DVD
• Started image restore
• Failed with VSS error
• Restored configuration to non-RAID
• Repeated boot off repair DVD
• Started image restore
• Failed

Of all the functionality that we should expect to work reliably, being able to restore is way up there on the list. Major fail, Microsoft.

Hi Jeremy,

System file corruption could be a possible cause why you are experiencing an issue with performing a restore. To ensure your external drive is not compromised, we suggest performing a check disk. The check disk utility scans through your entire drive to find and repair damages. Follow these steps to successfully run the check disk utility:

1. Open the File Explorer.
2. Right-click the drive that needs to be scanned and then choose Properties.
3. Click on the Tools tab.
4. Click the Check button.
5. Wait for the process to be finished and then check if the same issue persists.

Note: We highly suggest backing up all of the files saved on the drive before follow the steps. This is to avoid data loss issues.

I am in EXACTLY the same boat as you. Exchanged my SP4 under warranty for ghost touches. Took a system image to an external drive and I am having the exact same issues trying to restore as stated here.

Error is

Event Viewer says error 22.
