How permanently stop windows 10 force updates

I'm using an ACER aspire ES 14 laptop and it's been with me for over a year now with no problems whatsoever. Not until the start of 2018 where out of nowhere, windows 10 wants me to install their updates. Now for how long have I been ignoring those latest updates and seen some of the peoples complaints in recent forums that the newest updates destroys their PC/laptops instead of making it better, I'm kinda scared and also don't have the time to get all of the updates in my laptop. First, it was the windows assistant that was bugging me, where it would just show up and stops me for doing anything else. I tried the following method of going to "Services" and disabling both "Background Intelligence Transfer" and "Windows Update" and restarted my laptop, but of course those didn't work since it will automatically enables themselves again while also installing windows 10 assistant back. So I tried another method I found here that needs me to go to Task Scheduler and do some tweaking here and there,  and what do you know, it worked! At least for 3 weeks... Then a few days ago, I found windows 10 assistant installs itself again, so I had to do the same steps I did before and it worked so far, then the next day where I was expecting it to install itself again. Something new happened, instead of windows 10 assistant, I just received a notification in my Action Center that "We're getting your PC up to date" and I know for sure that it's still a windows update and this is the part that's making me nuts and stressed out since I have no idea how to stop this, I'm all out of options even from searching this on the web. So I really need help from this.

    Well I don't agree with you at all. This statement is totally incorrect:

    "Since the success of an upgrade is directly proportional to the quality of the pre-existing installation"

    The success of an upgrade is entirely dependent upon the quality of the written software and the testing process it went through prior to release.

    In the case of Windows 10 Ver 1803 - it is by far the worse of them all to date.

    I even completely installed from scratch (ie nothing extra, clean HDD) Version 1709 of Windows 10 Pro. Perfect Installation no problems, everything correct. Then allowed the failure of ver 1803 to automatically update. It can't even boot! Even a clean install from scratch (clean HDD) does not even get to the asking to select keyboard, etc.

    So Microsoft in it's pathetic attempt to upgrade have changed the most basic early install environment that worked in 1709 and ruined it for 1803.

    My main PC for work is now back to Windows 7, that works perfectly. And this computer is going to form the start of my transition away from Microsoft to Linux. Windows 10 is proving to be poorly developed and lacks the thorough testing process prior to release. My Microsoft phone is also going to the dump as well. The Windows 10 Mobile updates to that have resulted in the same process of more failures and OS crashes than the very first OS it came with.

    Upgrades should not be mandatory. Everyone, no matter whether it is Home or Pro, should retain the ability to tell Microsoft they don't want an update which causes their PC to fail.

    Absolutely BS. I have spent the last week fixing my laptop as a result of forced windows 10 updates. MY onboard keyboard died, my trackpad was not responsive. MY HDMI and graphics drivers were out of synch (APU and Discreet on the boaord graphics card) my USB drivers were hit or miss if they would function. At one point I was reduced to a plug&Play mouse and an on-screen virtual keyboard to get into recovery boot mode. If not for Google providing me 100+ GB of storage I would have been screwed b/c on my reset ALL of my files were corrupted in the reset process. 

    7 Days ago everything was working perfectly fine. A forced update to the latest 18xx April windows 10 and everything failed. I am now stuck racing against the clock to figure out a way to make sure windows cannot break my computer again. I am a student and work remote, my computer is my life without it I fail classes and do not earn an income.

    1 week of pay gone. 1 week of assignments failed. 

    This is on windows, I will not allow updates to continue. I consider this breach of contract and false advertising on their part. Planned obsolescence and collusion with hardware/system manufacturers. Unforgivable and unbelievable.

     That's really horrible. Sorry to hear that your situation is so bad. I have heard people at work describing similar issues, and it seems the big push for 'accelerated updates' has also caused problems with some of the enterprise versions of Windows in my office. 

    In my case, I have found my machine hung up on the ASUS logo splash screen on several occasions when returning home, and although I have spoken with MS tech support over the phone, they simply suggested that I disable the Windows Update service; however, I have found that Windows is somehow forcing the updates anyway (perhaps one of their aggressive updates also installed a service to turn the Windows Update service back on after disable it?)... Windows has seemed a bit clunky to me in the past, but all of this nonsense needs to change immediately or I might consider selling my car so I can buy a Mac, or finally delve deeper into Linux and hope that it's compatible with all of the software that I use on a daily basis. Probably just buy a Mac.
