I'm using an ACER aspire ES 14 laptop and it's been with me for over a year now with no problems whatsoever. Not until the start of 2018 where out of nowhere, windows 10 wants me to install their updates. Now for how long have I been ignoring those latest updates and seen some of the peoples complaints in recent forums that the newest updates destroys their PC/laptops instead of making it better, I'm kinda scared and also don't have the time to get all of the updates in my laptop. First, it was the windows assistant that was bugging me, where it would just show up and stops me for doing anything else. I tried the following method of going to "Services" and disabling both "Background Intelligence Transfer" and "Windows Update" and restarted my laptop, but of course those didn't work since it will automatically enables themselves again while also installing windows 10 assistant back. So I tried another method I found here that needs me to go to Task Scheduler and do some tweaking here and there, and what do you know, it worked! At least for 3 weeks... Then a few days ago, I found windows 10 assistant installs itself again, so I had to do the same steps I did before and it worked so far, then the next day where I was expecting it to install itself again. Something new happened, instead of windows 10 assistant, I just received a notification in my Action Center that "We're getting your PC up to date" and I know for sure that it's still a windows update and this is the part that's making me nuts and stressed out since I have no idea how to stop this, I'm all out of options even from searching this on the web. So I really need help from this.

I'm in this situation, I lost my data because of the FORCED updates !!!, it's been a long time since I shifted the updates, but Microsoft forced the update on my computer, and the result is that my pc does not work anymore, I have to try everything, reinstallation, reboot ... nothing works, I lost all my data thanks to Microsoft and I am in exam period I can not do my duty what a loss !! ... I hate Microsoft with their new way of managing it sucks. I think it's time to switch to OS or Linux
Yet again after delaying and not restarting my work laptop for months a **** Windows feature update has crept through, now my system won't boot up and keeps saying the pc didn't start correctly. So now at the start of my work day 2 hours have been wasted waiting for a forced update to install which it hasn't yet again, so for the rest of my work day I'll be resetting my laptop hopefully i haven't lost my data and then reinstalling all the legend i use to actually do my job that i get paid for!! I'm surprised companies haven't tried sueing Microsoft for repeated wasted working days!! How about you go back to the good old days were the use can actually decide not to install updates until they have got the ok from their laptop/computers manufacture saying they've bench tested it and with these patches the update will work. Rather then continuously forcing **** feature updates that make a screen have a pretty picture or a new font and God knows what else they tinker with which makes systems crash drivers fail etc etc etc etc etc etc etc
Microsoft have become such arrogant jerks that they no longer allow you to control your own computer.
Forced updates are just plain hostile and more like malware than a "service".
In my case, I run two w10 machines that works as TV Production switchers for live streaming, meaning they run 24 Hrs a day.
As the bandwidth availability is limited in my country, sharing the connection with BITS/Wuauserv it's unacceptable, and DISK I/O must be completely dedicated to the video switches to avoid any frame loss due to high I/O times.
Unfortunately the software I use for this task (vMix) only runs on W10, if there was a linux version I would have windows 10 completely wiped out of the PC's
I don't need any updates or patches, just need the PC's to keep running uniniterrupted.
I Have tried deleting tasks, disabling services, delete WU files is my next option

I have another computer, a high performance laptop to do live streaming on the road, and you don't know how many time I have lost and how many anger and problems it has created to my productions.
Windows update is not a feature, is a F**** virus!

No, you lost your data because you had not taken responsibility for YOUR data and backed it up. What if the hard drive had failed? You would have equally lost the data. What if the laptop was stolen? You would have lost the data.
There is no reason in this day and age for people to lose data, there are many different backup or syncing options around. Office 365 plays very well with Windows 10 but if you want vendor segregation there are many others. Even a USB drive backup is better than relying on just the drive in the laptop.
How generous of MS to push users away from their products and handing them over to apple or even linux by making their operating system unusable. Windows 10 is effectively an "offline" OS from the user's POW as the OS is permanently hogging internet's connection for it's updates rendering it truly unusable even for the most trivial tasks as checking an email.
