I'm using an ACER aspire ES 14 laptop and it's been with me for over a year now with no problems whatsoever. Not until the start of 2018 where out of nowhere, windows 10 wants me to install their updates. Now for how long have I been ignoring those latest updates and seen some of the peoples complaints in recent forums that the newest updates destroys their PC/laptops instead of making it better, I'm kinda scared and also don't have the time to get all of the updates in my laptop. First, it was the windows assistant that was bugging me, where it would just show up and stops me for doing anything else. I tried the following method of going to "Services" and disabling both "Background Intelligence Transfer" and "Windows Update" and restarted my laptop, but of course those didn't work since it will automatically enables themselves again while also installing windows 10 assistant back. So I tried another method I found here that needs me to go to Task Scheduler and do some tweaking here and there, and what do you know, it worked! At least for 3 weeks... Then a few days ago, I found windows 10 assistant installs itself again, so I had to do the same steps I did before and it worked so far, then the next day where I was expecting it to install itself again. Something new happened, instead of windows 10 assistant, I just received a notification in my Action Center that "We're getting your PC up to date" and I know for sure that it's still a windows update and this is the part that's making me nuts and stressed out since I have no idea how to stop this, I'm all out of options even from searching this on the web. So I really need help from this.

The only way to stop the updates is to disconnect from the Internet so the system can't receive them (this makes Windows 10 work the same as iPad, iPhone, tablets, Xbox, PlayStation, and other consumer electronic devices). This is why Windows 10 is a continuous service, not a one-time product. If you don't agree to the updates, you actually aren't legally allowed to use the system. You don't own Windows, you license the temporary restricted rights to use it. Those are the license terms of contract, and updates are required. Your only alternative is to use another product instead.
We can help you solve any problem you have at all to get your system working properly, but there's no "off switch" for updates, no matter what you do.
What the H.... kind of answer is that? If the win 10 update will not install on crappy windows 10, what is the end user to do? I have been trying for two days now to install the latest win 10 update and each time I get a different windows error code. We really don,t understand why this update is failing!
Now awaiting another update, that will fail again . I think Microsoft don't understand either, not all countries, states, territories, counties have unlimited Internet and bandwidth. I'm in a county that doesn't have great bandwidth, so say I'm listening to some music as soon as an update starts the music starts buffering. Luckily I have 'unlimited' data or else it would get chewed up nicely.

Hey I'm thinking openly here, some people might not have $5 but luckily I do.
I narrowed it down to graphics update which was stopping the computer from waking (which I can't stop trying to continue to update) and not sure but something in the fall that HP thinks it needs to inspect the system and then gets stuck in a loop.
Wouldn't have that problem if I could of switched auto off (be it on my head the owner of the laptop) and await further bench testers etc to iron it out not 100% but near enough, or have solutions ready from bench testing, OEM side too need to get on this.
I found a through loads of hunting (more work time wasted) a program through microsoft wushowhide.diagcab the "temporarily" disables updates, how long temporarily is I'll find out I guess. I've just rubn this now and stop fall so shall see.
But I shouldn't have to do this. We need "User friendly" but not "owh my god the user is stupid so bury everything slightly useful the user could do" control of our own computers.
