Hello, 

I want to reinstall my windows 10 64 bit into a new SSD I bought.

I am trying to create a USB flash drive using windows media creation tool but I am getting this error every time. I have tried it on 4 laptops and 1 desktop, and with 3 different pendrives.

Hi Divyank,

The error code 0x80072F76-0x20017 means that the tool doesn't have permission for it to run. For us to assist you, we suggest that you follow the simple steps listed below:

  1. Right-click on the Media Creation Tool.exe.
  2. Press Properties.
  3. Click on General.
  4. At the bottom, click on Unblock.
  5. Press Apply, and then OK.

    I had the same issue, I changed my ISP and it worked. I waited until i reached the EULA Agreement page and switched back to my previous ISP(Railwire Fibernet)...

    This is really a shame this problem is still not fixed.

    I lost almost half a day to figure it out.

    I bought a downloadable licence of windows 10 online, thinking I will have a download link to the iso.

    But no, you just get redirected again to that stupid mediacreationtool that does NOT WORK on 4 different PC on 3 differents ISP.

    After a few hours of search, I found a simple solution : 

    get this tool : https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-and-office-iso-download-tool

    get rufus tool : https://rufus.akeo.ie/

    With the downloaded iso you can now create a bootable USB device.

    Paying >100$ licence and getting only redirected to a broken tool, and having to loose 4h to figure it out by myself is really a shame for such a big company.

    HI i try this tool on 3 diffrent computers and it does not work bc i bought a computer without acces to the win 10 cd key this is my only solution to acculy change hdd on my computer im not sure where to go from this ?

    • Run as admin does not work
    • Changing DNS did not Work

    I faced the issue some time ago and forgot about until had the need to get latest ISO.

    Searched some more online and found solution at least for me, I tried different internet service provider. Works with my 4G connection but not with ADSL.
